I recently ordered an A1C test to do at home, I've neglected my diabetes until recently and can't honestly say the last time I had one of these done but its been a year at least I'm sure.
My question is, is there a cost to sending in the test to get the results other than postage? I would also like to know from anyone that has done a home test if you feel it is as accurate as going to the doctor and having it done?

From reading the comments here it does seem the doctors accept the tests that are done at home. Which is great if we don't have to pay for labs to be done with their office. Either way, at this point for me, I just need to know what mine is so I have a starting point. It seems to me the tests are fairly accurate meaning even if it is a little off it will give me a good idea of where I am sitting so I know what my next step is to take.

Another good way is to use your glucose monitor too, as most retain readings over periods of time. You can do averaging from there as well (for general purposes, as I imagine the A1c is considered more accurate).

Are you finding that your doctors are accepting these results and not re-testing, or are they still wanting to perform their own tests each 3 mos.?

Hi Robin,
There is no cost associated to the test that you got from Healthy Outcomes. You can choose to have your results emailed to you or thru the post. The envelope is post paid, it is a great deal. I did my very first A1c this way and it was spot on. My doc did one a month later (he did the full lab) and I had dropped .2 points in a month. So either the tests were very close, or I actually did make some progress. LOL

Thanks Gabby, hope mine gets here soon, its been about a week now since I "purchased " it with my points.

Yeah, I love that site. They just put up some more surveys, I need to go check them out.
I was scared too, my first A1c I knew was going to be high. I had been working for about 9 months on my diabetes without meds, so I expected the worst. Like you, I just needed a starting point so I could have a goal to reach for.
Mine came back a 7.6 and I was thrilled! My office A1c came back a 7.4 so I felt confident that the Reli On was a good test.

Hey Robin. I got mine from Healthy Outcomes too. I have to wait about 5 more days for it to be a full 3 months. My one and only test was 13.7 so I'm praying it's DOWN! It is also the Reli On with the postage paid envelope. My doctor said this was accurate so I am going to try it. Good luck with the test and let us know how your results are! Ang

Hey Ang, so your saying the one that HealthyOutcomes sends is the Reli-On brand too? Great, now I just need to wait for it to get here, at least I won't have to wait to do the test since it has been so long. I'm not expecting great numbers myself but I need a reference point of somewhere to start.

Yeah Robin, it's sitting right here and it's the Reli On A1C Test. Healthy Outcomes is a really good site for freebies! (Limited, but it's free!) :)

hello-I have done the relion I bought at walmart pharmacy. everything needed is in the box (cost (.((and tax). there is a card you fill out and you send in the sample and card to the lab on the postpaid envelope. they ask if you want it back email or snail mail. email is about 3-5 days long way was about 11 days coming back . once you buy the test (box) there is no additional cost.AND-mine came back 7.4. could be better-but like you said I fell on the wayside. they offer to remind you when to repeat . good luck ,HUGGS

Thanks for the info, the one I ordered is from HealthyOutcomes, I earned the points to order it so there was no cost there just some of my time, maybe I'll get lucky and that one won't charge to send it in and get the results. Guess I should have asked if anyone has done the test offered on HealthyOutcomes.
