According to FDA antiepileptic drugs now should receive a black box warning for the increased risk of suicidal thoughts. This includes gabapentin (neurontin) and Lyrica. If you want to know more about the drugs the FDA is currently looking at go to WebMD or www.fda.gov/medwatch/report.htm

I really never took anything that made me suicidal. But I did take the seroquel at one point and the temors and seizure like activities with that was enough. I couldn't immagine how I could handle being suicidal…Debe

Unfortunately a number of the antidepressant drugs also pose increased risk of suicidal tendancies. We really have to watch what we take and question the doctors extensively when having new meds of any kind prescribed. You would hope the doctors would be aware of these risks and monitor closely, but we can't always count on that.

My mom suffers from depression and her PT just put her on Lyrica for the pain she has since she broke her elbow...this is a worrisom thought. I tell you, when do we get to decide if the risk is worth the treatment?

I take a small dose of Clonazapam at bedtime because I have mild seizures in my sleep, discovered in the sleep study to see if I had sleep apnea. When I had it filled the last time, I received a pamphlet about this. It's good to know. I've never had a suicidal thought in my life (thank god!!) But for those that have, this is important information.
