What are the chances that my grandchildren develop Type 1 diabetes since I have Type 1.

As Lou said it is caused by the body attacking the beta cells; there has been research done, and kid's chances of getting diabetes are higher if their parents are diabetic. If it is the father 1/10, mother 1/25 (10% versus 4%)
I would not be too worried, this genetically and mathematically is out of your control, and will be decided by your child, his/her spouse, and human nature.
Many blessings, and I hope you have a happy and healthy grandchild. -Jeff

Nobody really knows what causes the body to destroy the beta cells that produce insulin. That destruction is what causes Type 1 diabetes. To the best of my knowledge, there is more of a genetic factor in the development of Type 2 diabetes than in Type 1.
