This annual test measures the amount of protein in your urine. It checks to see how well your kidneys are working. Kidney problems can be a common and serious result of diabetes. How many know if they are getting this test yearly? Does you MD ever alk to you about this?

I haven't had this one. My next visit I think I had better have my kidneys checked. I don't know what the symptoms are but I have had on and off flank pain and a heaviness or stiffness in my flank area for some years now. I know I had a blood test about a year ago now that was ok.

I asked my doctor about this one, and he said that for now, since my numbers are not sky high and my labs for now say all is well with my kidneys, that I just take the in office test every quartly visit. I also asked him about the C-reactive proteins, and he said for now, we don't need to do that one.

I believe my doctor orders this test every year — or at least he orders a test that checks my kidney function. I assume its this one.

I am going to be asking my doc about this one. I got it off of one of Amy's videos, so do I need to ask about a 24 hour test or the just in the office?

You should probably start with the in the office one (in the cup) and they'll decide if you need the 24 hour one. I've been told for 7 years by every doctor I've ever seen that 'next time we'll do the 24 hr test' and haven't done one yet!! lol So far!! We'll see what happens this time.

Ok, great. I think they did one on my first visit and that is why the put me on Lisinopril, but I have not seen any results of it yet. I hope to on Tuesday. Thanks

I just had this test last week and got the results yesterday. I have protein!! Yikes. How can that be when my blood sugar is good? I read that antibiotics can cause it so I'm hoping it's that as I've been on them 6 weeks out of the last 4 months not including the hospital bags they flooded me with. I get retested in 2 weeks?

hey will retest you and watch whats going on. If it is in it again I think they will eventually do a 24-hr urine on you. Nothing to worry about. I had it in my urine at the age of twenty. They gave me things to do, like watch my protein intake and so on. I was rebellious and didn't take anything to heart back then…Debe

Is this the one that you collect urine for 24 hrs. If so, I do take this one yearly. So far so good.
