My endo. has referred me to a neurologist and I missed their call today. Do you think it will be ok if I try calling them back tomorrow?

I have been waiting to hear from a neurologist that my endo. has sent a referral to for me. A neurologist office called today to set up an appointment and I was outside taking my dog for a walk. I am so disappointed I missed the call. My endo. thinks my numbness in my left leg is caused from diabetic nerve damage and shingles nerve damage. I am thinking about trying to call the number that showed up on my caller ID and see if they will still set me up the appt. Do you think that would be appropirate? I need to go to the lab and get some lab work done but I don't want to miss another call.

My question to you is how important to you is the problem you are having? If it is important, you would return their call. If it isn't, you can wait and see if they will call you back. Sometimes they won't. If someone calls you, why wouldn't you call them back? My ENT called me several times and left messages. I called back several times and left messages. Their message said the office was closed and to leave a message. I asked him if they are open, why is there a message stating the office is closed with the secretary sitting there. I told him he needs to check those messages because she isn't returning calls. Dang I got another person in trouble with the boss.

By all means call him /her back. It may take a month to get in to see him/her but it's worth the call. It's not tacky or inappropirate. It's done everyday…

absolutely, follow up. I called for the kidney dr. appt. and need to wait until August since it is not an emergency., plus I want to see one particular dr. in that practice.
Hang in there, and follow through.

Watercolorist; Best wishes on your up coming appt.
Because I am keeping my blood sugars semi normal with diet and exercise my doctor didn't think I needed to see an Endo. When I finally got him to make me a referral for the Endo. the first appt. they had was 3 months. I was able to get in to see one in two months by accepting the first available one. She is the one who sent the referral for the neurologist and I told her that I would take the first available opening from them also. At least she believes me that something is wrong.
Sometimes it seems like doctors are a lot like everyday people. If they can't look at you and see the problems your having they don't believe there is one, and some things don't show up on the standard test etc.

Trudie, I don't let my doctors get away with that for the simple reason I tell them just because you can't see the problem doesn't mean I don't have it. If a patient doesn't speak up and lets the doctor get away with things that is the fault of the patient.

Why would you think that doctors are not everyday people. They have families, bills and problems at home just like everyone else. They have all kinds of fun just like everybody else. I use to hang out with them after work when I worked at the hospital. They would come get me to make sure I would be at Happy Hour. We had a softball team that was started by one of the doctors and they got the staff to join. They came to staff parties and laughed and talked with us.

You went through the effort of getting an appointment then ask should you call back. If you don't they are not going to be as responsive as they should be because they will think you don't care.

I definitely know how that feels. I have been waiting for an MRI appointment and I called today and they still haven't scheduled me - it's been almost 2 weeks now. I made sure the appt. gal knew how to reach me - I gave her my number my hubby's just in case! You take care Trudie Ann and I hope we can talk again soon.

Actually, I would call them to see if they will still set you up for an appt. You know how doctors, hospitals, medical things in general are. We usually have to take charge and make sure when our appts are, etc. Yes, call them it's better for you. Take care!

Ohh thank you. I was thinking that I should try and call back. It is always so hard sitting at home waiting and waiting especially when you do have things that you need to do.
