i usually have a smoothie in the am.i use weight watchers yogurt, banana, kiwi and milk blended in the blender. it taste good and does'nt seem to be too many carbs
Patsy, you can add some silken tofu to your smoothie to get some protein if you want. It makes it very creamy and I love it.
low carb pancakes, muffins, or breakfast bars. http://www.carbsmart.com/breakfast.html
thanks for the web site, its killer!
i try and stick with the usual bowl of porridge with blueberries, with either
a sugarfree yogurt
a small apple,
banana or kiwi
or a completely carb free scrambled egg/boiled egg or pouched egg!! you have to limit the amount of egg intake to 3 max per week, they are good for protein but too much is too high in colestrol!! but theres so much you can do with eggs!! so tasty too!!
No, you don't need to call a doctor but you need to re-evaluate breakfast. That number clearly shows that what you ate for breakfast isn't working for you so you have to adjust and try something new. Cereal is hard for diabetics, especially in the morning. Oatmeal can be too. Are you eating anything else? If not you are not really getting a balanced meal which will also be working against you.
kd! i do so appreciate your help, this is no joking matter to me. i really don't like eating breakfast, but was led to think that it was the most important meal of the day. when i try breakfast meats for in the morning,i get sick and throw up. i've done that since a child. what do i eat, if anything. i know i joke around a lot, its to keep from going all the way to the pit. so if i have offended you in any way please forgive me.
When you say breakfast meats, what do you mean?
bacon,or ham, i don't care for sausage much at all. and eggs make me really sick in the morning.
You can eat anything, I usually eat chicken or fish at breakfast. Nuts work well too as does cheese. Eggs are good but if they make you sick then that won't work. Have you tried different preparations? Like omelet with cheese and veg for instance.
no, not really, i hated breakfast so bad all my life, i just wanted to get it over with.
Hey Barbara,
There are a lot of great things you can eat, and getting a "breakfast" mentality out might be the trick. Even something like half a sandwich with a piece of fruit might work better. I sautee up some veggies, throw in a small handful of walnuts and half a grapefruit. That is one of my tried and trues. There are a lot of low carb option out there.
There is also a new cereal by Glucerna that offers diabetics a choice. They have 3 flavors and they are supposed to be formulated to not spike your numbers.
But like KD said, a balance of carbs, fat and protein is always best. When you eat cereal, you are only getting one peice of the pie so to speak. That is mostly carb...nothing to balance it.
so if i had a balance, i could have the right kind of cereal?
Yep, so if you added something like peanutbutter or some cheese and meat. It doesn't have to be bacon, you can have a slice of lunch meat with some cheese or something like that. Just something to slow down the absorbtion of the carbs. Fat and protein do that.
well i think i am finally getting the idea, i have been so dense, i thought it had to be one or the other. thanks!
You're not dense, you just didn't know. A lot of us learn things everyday...that is a good thing! I learned a lot about this from Toma, a member here. He helped me see that I have to have balance in each meal, not just my over all day. I used to save up my carbs so I could have something special, but that would always backfire. I have a long way to go, but I am learning...you can teach an old dog new tricks! LOL
arf! arf! i begin to see the light!
LMAO...you are too funny!
dear gabby i agree witj your statements about eating healthier foods
What type of cereal are you eating? Is it a kind that has alot of sugar in it? Do you like oatmeal? I think that is something that is supposed to be helpful.
i am eatin whol egrain cereal.
iam now watching what i eat and try to eat more helthy food
oatmeal is good for you. some whole wheat has quite a bit of carbs
