I was in the grocery store last night, and I see Spam. I pick up the container, and find out the entire 12 ounce tin only has six carbs. So, only one carb per serving. Anyone like this stuff?

When I lived in Korea our nanny made spam fried rice. Soooo good. Haven't had it since we left 8 years ago.

I just counted 7 more and I just came on the site. This could be more than one person or one person with a lot of email addresses. May have to block his IP address and contact his service provider

I keep it on hand for days when I just can't get anything together in the kitchen. I did it in some stir fried veggies last week. I also get the turkey version of it. It's all fat and salt, but in a pinch it can be tasty.

A lot of us seniors grew up on spam and bologna. It didn't have to be refrigerated ( unless you had left overs ) and it was easy to open a can and make a quick sandwich, or with veggies for a full meal, or even with eggs for breakfast. I remember my Uncle telling me it was given to them in their meal packs way back when he was in the Army, and I remember all their ads on our old black and white TV. Today we learn that we have to be careful with to much salt. So I suggest just watch your salt intake and enjoy.

Trudie Ann I also grew up on spam we had it for lunch every sunday after church;-) I look at it this way everything in moderation don't go overboard with it and it makes a good quick meal;-)

Howdy John
Yes I kinda like it occasionally.but due to my dialysis and sodium restrictions find it is totally out for me now.

I found on the spam site a product called Spam single classic:
Ingredients
Pork, Water, Salt, Modified Potato Starch, Sugar, Potassium Chloride, Sodium Nitrite.

Nutrition Facts
Serving Size: 1 pkg (85g)
Servings: 1
Amount Per Serving
Calories 210
% Daily Value
Total Fat 16g 25%
Saturated Fat 5g 25%
Cholesterol 55mg 18%
Sodium 730mg 30%
Total Carbohydrates 0g
Dietary Fiber 0g
Sugars 1g
Protein 14g

That is an excessive amount of sodium per serving size IMO.

being from Hawaii Spam holds a special place in my heart (Spam Musubi may be one of the greatest culinary inventions ever) … just be aware it is very high in sodium and saturated fats

Still can’t figure out why the Zippy’s Surf Pac bento doesn’t have any fish in it.
That’s the last time I had spam - Kapahulu 2011. Wasn’t crazy about it then or since.
The Musubi is all yours too.

wish I could still eat spam musubi (or any musubi for that matter).
Sadly rice is on my never again list..

You lived in Hawaii Nick?

Nope, never lived, just visited a few weeks. Had a nice diner with another DC member last time, and through my music circle have gotten to know a Kahului resident who’s turning me on to a lot of the local female talent.
Was kind of tough to eat while we were there as like you, rice just isn’t in my diet any longer (maybe once a month). I did practically eat myself sick that trip though – I think the McDonald’s Taro pie was what did it.

I agree about the pitfalls of Spam. I bought the 25% less sodium tin, but it is still high. I eat it once in awhile.

personally I am not overly concerned about sodium or saturated fats. I seldom eat out and very rarely eat processed foods so the majority of the sodium I eat is not "hidden" but rather what I add. Seems to work as I came off statins for cholesterol 4 months ago and my last lipid panel is now ideal … but as always … YMMV
