To be honest, the last couple of days have been horrific… Pulling up old discussions and blowing the dust off them. The diabetic world it changing and changes every, single, day. I am newly diagnosed and need help. I though this is what this site was about. I'm sure my rating will be 0% thanks to a few, who know whom i'm speaking of… I am really disturbed by this…

Speaking of a dead horse, why are there more than 1 discussions for the same thing, aren't these posts never ending basically, I mean as long as someone replies the discussion can go on forever, MY personal problem with the site is, if there is a listing for Jokes, WHY beat a dead horse and have a #2 and #3 and so on, isn't JUST 1 discussion on the topic enough????
I'm a diabetic, my 7yr old is a diabetic AND has a thyroid condition, I COME HERE TO DISCUSS THOSE ISSUES. I do not come here to see the written form of comedy central posted in more than 1 discussion, nor do I come here to see the morning noon and night discussion posted 7 different times…talk about beating a dead horse, why isn't 1 discussion about each NON-DIABETIC subject enough????? Wouldn't that make ignoring them for those who chose to do so much easier. Every morning when I log in the entire "most recent" 1st page is 90% NON-DIABETIC related or non site issue related…I could care less if my personally posted discussions are on the front page, I am not here for the status of "being on the front page" and I am not here to try and maintain a 100% rating, I am here to ask of other diabetics what I may not know, may or may not have experienced, and occasionally give of my own experiences and knowledge, I thought that was what this site was about.
BTW there is a new discussion posted titled PRAY!!!!! Lets get back to what this site is really about supporting those in true need of it, not BS and I don't mean Blood Sugar.

Thank you for weighing in on this issue. John and I have discussed at length the jokes, the "good morning" threads and more. I am on the fence because, while I do not see them as additive the diabetes discussions, it does tell me there is an opportunity for us to create some features where these types of discussions will be most appropriate.

I'm glad members are trying to connect with each other. First and foremost, much of this is just an outward demonstration of people trying to communicate with others. I feel honored that people choose to do that on Diabetic Connect.

However, what I've always wanted is a place where people can share information on health conditions. We will be introducing a new feature next month that will allow members to say "good morning" or put "jokes" on their friends' "walls". It should be a quick way for people to let others know they care and it won't impact the site as a whole.

Anyway, I certainly hope that you are all enjoying the site and, as always, please send any suggestions for improvement to myself and John.

ok hi guys

I feel partly to blame on this matter!! i was mentioned above as the irish girl!!! and while i have basicaly come to this site seeking advice and useful information about type one, insulin injections, pumps, diets, and other lifestyles i have also come to make connections with other diabetics so they can share their experiences with me etc!!

I think its important to realise that EVERYONE has the right to use this site to suit thier individual needs, whether its looking for friendly encouraging support or seeking information. People shouldnt be scorned if they want to share a joke or a greeting!!

i know im new here but i do want to contribute!!

if you want us to speak out then allow us to speak to one another without the feeling of our conversation isnt wanted! there is plenty of different disscusions goin on and if you dont like one the why cant you just move to the next???

As on every site, there are "Terms of Use" that apply on Diabetic Connect. By joining the group, you agree to these terms. John Crowley recently reminded everyone of these terms, but you can read them by clicking at the bottom of the page, "Terms of Use". They have been very lax with all of us where this is concerned, trying not to act as "Post Police", but there are some who continuously abuse the posts.

I agree with John in thinking that an occasional non-diabetic post which is fun or silly is not a problem. I have participated in a few. But the site is meant to share information and to provide support and encouragement - to educate us and help us deal with our diabetes.

As I've said before, there are sites like Facebook, etc., as well as email and IM that can be used for general "chit chat". Others have pointed this out as well.

Under the "Terms of Use" we do not have the "right to use this site to suit (our) individual needs…" We are required to follow the terms. Again, any site you join will have terms of use, and often you must sign off on them and agree to them in order to sign up.

If we would all just stop and think about a post before posting it publicly, then these tired discussions would not keep appearing and resurfacing.

I believe this is the one we seem to most often violate. Posting material "not related to the subject …"

(i) disrupts the normal flow of dialogue and/or exchange on the Site, including posting or otherwise transmitting material that is not related to the subject at issue or otherwise restricts or inhibits any other user from using and enjoying the DiabeticConnect.com Web site;

this just keeps getting worse every time it is brought up! its amazing! here we are once again discussing the "rules" instead of getting on with the discussions. we all have had our hands on it! by the way i am enjoying facebook very much! still don't know what i'm doing. i invite all my friends to meet me there. we can have a lot of fun! and talk about most anything! right lady di! i sent you something. i think!

roshy 2009-02-09 20:58:03 -0600 Report

ok im sorry ladyDi but i havnt stirred away from the primary source of this website!!

I am here to CONNECT with other diabetics! I searched for other people who have the choice whether they want to repy to me or not is up to them. I am using this site for support, advice, sharing experiences and friendship!! its all written in the logo!!

I posted up my own discussion, whoever wants to join in is welcome, if the topic doesnt suit you then why cant you just move on to the next?

im sorry but i wont back down on this, i havnt done anything wrong and either have the rest of the diabetics who wan to connect with one another!!

Believe it or not, this is not all about you, Roshy. This has been going on for some time. None of my comments have been directed at you specifically, other than to point out that none of us have any "rights" other than what we are given in those "Terms of Use".

I'm not trying to offend anyone, and I too am sick to death of these type discussions. As a matter of fact, this is my last comment. I will not take part in any other negative discussions that may come up. Just a waste of time, as I've said before…a waste of time and energy that could be better used in other ways.

I read what Tony said on the discussion above. John and Tony will be adding something new to the site, so if anyone has any suggestion contact the two of them and add you input. So there really is no need to discuss this anymore, because they have the final decision and ask to have suggestions or comments sent to them…Debe

If you can't find a discussion that will be of help to you, instead of posting this discussion, post a discussion about what you need to know about. Bringing this subject up again is just beating a dead horse.

i saw this and got to wondering, are you talking about me,who likes to say something to be friendly, or to the irish girl, who was new, or was this to richard, ken and mary who like to post jokes, for that matter i like to read them to and make comments. i think i'm starting to remember what people are really like!

2009-02-09 17:49:48 -0600 Report

I do like reading the jokes, quotes, etc. and make replies. However, I like many others, not only read and post on these sites, but I do check out the other discussions also. I have done my fair share of reading and replying to the medical discussions, and even started a few of discussions on certain medical issues. I agree with anonymous, why is this being stirred up AGAIN!! Highlandcitygirl, I appreciate you very much. I enjoy reading what you post, whether I reply or not. Thanks!!!

Many of you have wondered why I'm no longer very active here…well I too got sick of all the "Good mornings", "Is it snowing or raining", and so on. When this site gets back to the basics, I will again participate more.

Don't get me wrong, the ones asking for prayers and showing support for one another are fine, but if I want to read jokes, I'll go on line someplace else to do it. This is a "social" networking site, but not to pass out jokes, it is meant to be informative and suportive of Diabetics, both newly diagnosed as well as those of us who have been dealing with it for a while.

Thank you for allowing me to put in my opinion.
John Morris

John, I do miss you so much. I love this site but I to get bored on the "simple" subjects. I have met many good friends and we chat daily via e-mail or messages, and we all feel the same way. But I do want to stay here on this site, because it has taken some boredom I have had being home bound. I truely have met numberous good friends here and appreciate everyone that has educated me along the way. This is definately a good website, but the bickering, the boo-hooing and and the comebacks are a little to "childish". Out of over 16,ooo friends here, it is only a handful that spoil the groups learning experience. I had to learn from trail and error here. I messed up when I first started because I was following suit of others and thought I was doing right. But how aggitated I got with myself. I talked to members and they told me what this site was all about and I have learned from their. I do want this to back to basic diabetic talk & "diabetic fun"…Debe

2009-02-09 14:05:23 -0600 Report

Agreed my opinion is that if people want to talk nondiabetic stuff then go to email. Saying hello to everyone 15 times a day is not helping anyone with an issue. Thank you for being the bold one Angie. I was thinking the same thing. I've missed a lot of posts lately and had to dig for them because of this.

I'm new here as well and couldn't understand why all the non-diabetes related posts keep coming up on top day after day after day, if I have to weed through several pages just to get to the important stuff its such a waste of time and space…
