Well I had my 3 month checkup today and found out that everything is fine Diabetes wise. A1C 5.8 and lost 14 lbs since November. Quit smoking etc… but also decided to terminate my relationship with the new doctor going forward. I just don't feel comfortable with him. (this was my second visit with him) so I'm going back to my old doctor in May as he has now joined the Hospital group that I want to be in. My Diabetes is under control and he said I didn't have to come back for 6 months which is a good thing but his general approach to my health care was a little lacking. So I got home and scheduled an appt with the old doctor for 3 months from now and as soon as I get all my lab work from todays' visit I will cancel the next appt with this guy. Sometimes you just have to do what feels right and I don't like the guy plain and simple. He doesn't want to deal with any of my other issues just the blood pressure and diabetes and they are both under control. Multiple infections over 3 months should have triggered a conversation with him about possible causes but he didn't want to go there… sigh. I had a conference call with my dentist and my gynecologist on Wed.. they were more helpful than the Diabetes guy… Oh well they work for us and if it's not a good fit it's time to move one. I also saw the opthomalogist today and everything is fine there as well!! yay!

Just an update. ( I had an infection in a tooth last week, took antibiotics AGAIN and then a root canal on Tuesday. My jaw locked open and he had to push it back into place and almost broke it.. tooth hurts like heck so I'm back on antibiotics for the 7th time in 3 months. This is not good and could be potentially dangerous if something comes along that I need them again for. Oh well I'll live and through it all my blood sugar is low (strange) and my metformin cut in half now and I'm still smokefree… :) 17 days!!

Take care everyone and remember if your doctor isn't giving you the care you think he/she should. It's time to move on!

Judy I think you are making a wise decision. Your instints are probably right. I had a Dr. about like yours, did not want to discuss anything other than my diabetes and if something else was wrong she said it was because of my diabetes and as soon as my numbers got better it would go away. I have a great dr. now, thak goodness. Congrats on the A1c good job. Congrats on the 17 smoke free days too. The air is fresher without a cigarette in your mouth isn't it? Keep going strong, I am cheering for you.

Way to go Judy! Great news all around for you! I am still taking your advise on smoking and seeing the eye doc. Baby steps, lol. I don't blame you for changing doctors. I saw my primary doctor this week and he was cold toward me. I think he's mad because I could talk a "little" diabetic talk and had been seeing an endo. He's been my doctor for over 10 years, but I might not go back. It's our lives and health and we have got to do what's best! Congrats again on such a good report! Angie

Judy, you are an inspiration to all of us. Weight loss, kicking the smoking habit, and a great A1c. That's terrific.

And I agree whole-heartedly about the doctor thing. Life is too short to deal with doctors who aren't going to show they really care.

Hey JP,
Sorry that your doctor is not paying you the attention that you should get. I feel most of them don't. It is a bummer, as you think that a pro-active patient would be a breath of fresh air for them.
I hope your old one and the new group works out.
Congratulations on your A1c, that is great and the smoke free is on it's way. They say it takes 3 weeks to develope a new habit, so you are on your way.

Congrats on not smoking and the great numbers! It takes courage to change doctors. I am so fortunate I have a woman Nurse Practioner that I just love. She is the one that keeps me going and living a healthier lifestyle. My sister has breast cancer and has to have frequest blood draws. The main lab, lost her samples! She went to a lab closer to her home. She said it was dark, dingy and dirty. The lab tech was a much older man and was shakey. She has lympedema, so only her left arm can be used. He first tied the tourniquet on her arm and then proceeded to set up, he wasn't even ready. She said "I'm not letting you do this" and walked out. Kudos to you!!

Laura has her first appt with her new Ped Endo tomorrow, we will be leaving at 6am to get there for her appt but everyone that I have talked to about this doctor has nothing but praise for her, a couple of the type 1 kids that go to Laura's school see this same doctor and I had a chance to talk with one of those parents tonight while Laura was at dance practice so I'm really excited that this will be the one!

I agree with you Judy, if it doesn't feel right, it probably isn't, there is either a connection or there isn't and never will be, no sense sticking with what doesn't work or who doesn't work for you. Awesome job on having things under control though!!!

Good luck with the new doctor. I can't wait to hear the results of your little one's appt. :)

wow! good going with your diabetes control and your stop smoking success! as for tha doctor with the bad bed side manners, gone is a good thing. do you ever get the impression that some of them don't see you as human but just a way to make a living?

That's exactly the feeling I got from this guy. I said something to the nurse and she said "I can't say anything about that but I UNDERSTAND" so in essence she was telling me he's that way with everyone. Disappointing to say the least…

Oh well, the only reason I left my old doctor was because of his hospital affiliations and now he's joined the group I'm in so I'm going back to the compassionate, knowledgable guy that I liked!!! :)

Later Hope you are doing better with your blood sugar issues you were having.
