Excellent! A lady with a mind of her own! Feel free to share your opinion. that's what this is all about. Some of us agree, and some disagree, and that is what keeps it more interesting. It becomes a broader learning experience also!

I like Dr. Oz and think he is helping us. Senator McCaskill all but accused Doctor Oz of quackery - even though Oz actually runs a meticulous, science-based operation.

She received over $146,000 in campaign contributions from one of the largest pharmaceutical retailers in North America, and since he often suggests cheap things like consuming cinnamon or tumeric its no wonder she attacked him.

I don't care where she got her campaign contributions the fact is Dr. Oz is in business to make money. No matter what you do, you simply do not lie to people for the sake of making money. He gave people false hope.

Dr. Oz + good tv ratings = more money in his pocket.

"Oz actually runs a meticulous, science-based operation."
huh?
Dr. Oz stated in his testimony: "I recognize oftentimes they don't have the scientific muster to present as fact" and that he promoted these bogus cures to offer hope to his viewers. Even described himself … not as a scientist but rather …"My job, I feel, on the show is to be a cheerleader for the audience"
Offering cheap alternatives is great … as long is there scientific evidence to back it up and in most cases there simply isn't.
Dr Oz is, by all reports, a skilled and well trained doctor. I think we should hold trained professionals to a higher standard.

Well imjohn, I know he does offer some helpful info, Nothing wrong with absorbing some of it. What I don't like about him, is I believe there are times that he puts the almighty dollar first and foremost! Patients, and people in general, should be highest on his priority list. Especially since he's a doctor, I personally will not accept less when it comes to my health.

Good for them! Haven't paid attention to Oz for almost as long as he's been on TV.

Let me think for a second! Ok, I'll bet the reason you stopped paying attention to Oz, is because you paid attention at ONE time.

Me, I checked him out to see if he was related to the Wizard! I'm not sure, but he just might be!!!

What I don't understand is that he said it may not be factual but he is giving hope. OH PLEASE. He gives people false hope and that is scandalous. What is said is that people believe what comes out of his mouth.

Man does he look tired or what? Amazing what make up can do.
Seriously, I used to like Dr. Oz a lot. But like others have said, it seems most any fad is made "real" with his endorsement. I do believe he researches many of them and I do also agree that just because "science" has not validated some of the claims, doesn't mean it doesn't work. But just like Opra....once you get the power, you have to be careful how you wield it.

I agree totally! I don't watch his show much anymore, still love The Doctors, though they have had changes on their show not sure I like them, I got so used to Dr. Lisa, and the others and miss how that used to be. But it's good to bring in some other medical fields. I used to love Oprah too.

I haven't paid attention to anything Oprah said since we got into a major argument at a gas station here in Baltimore back in the 70's.

You can tell fools and strangers anything you want to tell them and people will believe it. The fact of the matter is that Fads come and go because they simply work until someone says they don't.

The worse are the people who promote this stuff. Now the big thing is the Paleo diet. I can't wait until that blows up just to see what people will have to say about it. Fads DO NOT work and people who promote them need to sit down and shut up. The people you see on TV talking about all the weight they lost are PAID to say that. The people advertising AB busters that really don't work are PAID to say how they toned their body.

Sadly people don't read the small print which is the disclaimer that said not medically confirmed or not approved by the FDA. This kind of thing does not stop with products until people are injured or killed.

OMG Gabby. He does look really old without the makeup. Airbrushing make up works wonders for him.

I must be a closet gossip hound because I'd love to hear more about you, gas and "O". I read the biography about her and its not all good.

John, Oprah had been here about a year as a co-host of a local morning talk show. We had a gas shortage so it was odd even days based on the last number of your license plate. There was a line at the gas station and the owner was working both sides of the pump. I pulled up on the right. He was taking my order when she pulled up on the left. She jumped out of her car and told him to stop what he was doing and wait on her because she was in a hurry. He told her she had to wait just like everyone else. She said well she can wait until after I am served. I had been in line for 25 minutes and had no patience left. I got out of my car and asked her who did she think she was. She said Oprah Winfrey. I said news flash. Just because you think you are someone important doesn't mean that I can wait. I told her to get her ugly butt back in her car and wait just like I did. She thought throwing a fit would help. I said to put it nicely. Screw You and got back in my car. She jumped on the attendant who also was the owner and he told her to get off his property he didn't need or want her business. She was so mad I thought her head would explode. She got in her car and sped off.

I had a friend who was killed at work read one of her book of the month. She wrote her impression of the book and she was one of the few people Oprah selected to be on her show and have lunch with her. I watched it and Oprah asked her one question. When she was commenting during the discussion Oprah ignored her and another guest and only talked to the other two women and I watched as she did the same thing at lunch. She said Oprah was not nice to her or the other lady at all before or after filming. She never watched the show again.

agree, so many want to get on these fads. just good old fashioned exercise, eating fresh fruits and veggies, a few servings a day, drinking lots of water, all the usual stuff to lose weight for example, and stay healthy is the best way.

Tabby all it require is good old fashion common sense. If science cannot prove it, I am not going to try it.

I suspect just a bit of abuse in his show, that is largely unacceptable! After all, he's a doctor, and his mission in life is to help others stay healthy, first and foremost! Nothing less is acceptable, including excuses! There is more to it than just the good bedside manner, that he has.

I'm not a fan of Oz. Granted I agree with the basic but the rest is useless garbage. Health is not entertainment.
