I'm a type 2 hypoglycemic diabetic and for the last few days I have had no appetite nothing tastes good to me and basically I force myself to eat so I don't get severe low bs's. I was just put back on clindomycin antibiotics for my infected foot ulcer so I don't know if it's this med causeing me to have no appetite or if it could be something else. Any feedback would be grat to have;-)

I'm just the opposite. I wake up thinking what I will eat. Need more self control. Today is a new beginning for me.

Look into pro-biotics! Antibiotics kill both good and bad bacteria, including the good bacteria in your intestines. These good bacteria in your intestines help with healthy digestion. A good probiotic replaces the good bacteria. Unfortunately, conventional medical doctors rarely tell their patients. On the other hand, most naturopathic doctors insist that a probiotic be taken when on antibiotics. A quality yogurt contains probiotics also!

Probiotics are natural and safe. They are already in your body in sufficient quantities, unless they are killed off by an antibiotic.

Here are two links with a bit of info on the subject.

I just learned about Pro-Biotics and have started taking a pro-biotic medication. But I also heard that yogurt is a probiotic and I eat a yogurt a day to keep the bugs away (such as yeast infections when taking antibiotics).

Lactobacillus acidophilus, and bifidum are two very commom good bacteria found in probiotics. The quality of probiotics available in different brands of yogurt, varies significantly. The same applies to off the shelf probiotics found in health food stores, and pharmacies. It's a good idea to do a bit of research, to determine which are best.

I eat a yogurt a day especially when I am on an antibiotic so I don't get a yeast infection. I never knew it had probiotics which I just learned about in Diet Class. So now I take probiotics each day also to get rid of the bad bugs in my stomach especially since I am on two antibiotics as I have too much candida (which everyone has) and hyperbactria (I think that is how it is spelled) both reside in everyone's stomach at some percentage or another. If it is too much of a percentage, then it is bad. I think this was something that I really didn't want to know but now that I do know I have to do something about it.

Yogurt is a routine part of my diet.

In the past, when I took an antibiotic that caused stomach upset, I took a quality probiotic. It worked well! My wife occasionallty takes them for IBS, and it works wonders for her.

I have read about antibiotics, and their relation to candida! Probably an excellent bit of info for most women.

In addition to yogurt, there are other foods that contain probiotics: fermented foods such as kefir, sauerkraut, and miso are some examples. Incorporating even small amounts of these foods into your daily or weekly food choices gives you more probiotic benefits. ~Lynn @Glucerna

Are there any other examples of probiotic foods? I don't care for miso and kefir but love sauerkraut on my hot dogs. Only problem is that I was told not to eat hot dogs (even the Hebrew National All beef kosher). OY, every time I think I've cured one thing, another pops up.

jigsaw
jigsaw 2014-06-16 06:36:51 -0500 Report

That's because, even if it's good, it's bad! Fortunately, if it's bad, it probably has something good also!

If you insist on eating an occasional hotdog, look into Ballparks FINAST! They are not cured, no artificial anything, and no added nitrates. I'm not saying they're a healthy choice, but I would guess that they're a better choice then your typical hotdog. They're relatively new on the market.

A friend of mine married a Korean girl many years ago. She made me a dish of kimchi, and it was delicious. It was also extremely hot (spicy). I definitely have to look up a recipe for it. Definitely good stuff, if you can handle the hot spice.

I can count the times during my 54 years since I was diagnosed at age 12 back in 1960——that because of a blister or cur on my foot which got infected—-that taking antibiotics—-good ones that did a good job killing the bad ones—-gave me another infection somewhere else in my body—-because sometimes those good antibiotics also sometimes also kill some good guys in our blood and cells which protect us by fighting off the bad guys. We are all praying for you and hoping your body gets well and fights to keep the bad guys at bay while you continue to heal—-and eat enough yoghurt and probiotics to help.

Sometimes I don't have an appetite for no reason at all. But I have to have something to keep the bs under control. At times like that I go for liquids, such as smoothies. That way I get the carbs and protein I need without the agony of forcing down food I don't really want. I hope that helps.

I find that I prefer Premier Protein Drinks (chocolate, vanilla or strawberry) rather than Glucerna. PPD has less carbs than G and tastes better also. I have been trying it on all kinds of things and found that I like it on my cereal as well as just as a drink in place of a meal.

I'll bet its the antibiotic. I was doing well but was put on two different antibiotics for two different bugs in my stomach and now I also have no appetite. And I am in such stress that my blood pressure is up.

RebDee
RebDee 2014-06-08 01:43:19 -0500 Report

I must clarify my last note. I'm not stressed because of my stomach. I am stressed because on Thursday my upstairs toilet exploded and the entire back end of my home both first and second stories was awash in water and had to be demolished so I'm stuck in the house while workmen are here doing whatever and then when they leave there are gigantic heaters and blowers left in all rooms (sometimes more than one) to dry out the walls and floors and I had to take all my clothes out of my closets and drawers so they could pull up the carpeting and get rid of my brand new laminated floors that I just finished paying for a couple of months ago. And that is why I am stressed and my blood pressure went up.
