To all this May concern everyone levels and treatment is different so we all can't treat ours the same as the next our doctors tell us something different,
If you have to eat 3 meals a day then you can't fast or your not doing the right
Thing for yourself, before you follow anyone else talk to your doctor please,
(Just saying).and always pray if you believe in god.

hi, i consistently read the diligence of everyone in their quest to control diabetes which is extremely commendable !!! again i must drive home the biblical view for the fast . isaiah 58:8 says "your health will spring forth speedily" —i a'm a living testimony to this fact !! i fast two days a week [24 hour periods] .i have lost 62lbs. ''AAALLLL' my levels are now "NORMAL" !!!!!!! — !!!!!! MY LEVELS ARE NORMAL !!!! please ask the lord for strength and start immediately !!!!!!! thank you robert

alternative1 2014-07-03 23:52:40 -0500 Report

yes, finally someone who gets it. get rid of the acidic state your body is in and you get diabetes.type 2… and you bring it back to a 7.0 alkaline state…which is homeostasis. great work nyrobm…you get an aa+++…for figuring it out all by yourself…there you go people…he told you in a nutshell how to get rid of diabetes…which most of you people will never do…

jayabee52 2014-06-21 00:29:15 -0500 Report

What you are saying here is NOT coroborated by the context. "6Is this not the fast that I have chosen: To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens, To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke? 7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,
And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh? 8 Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you;
The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. 9 Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer;
You shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’"

Clearly there is much more going on here than choosing to go without food one or two 24 hour periods of ones own choosing.

I really dislike folks who ignore the context of a scripture and try to make it say something which is not in the context!

I DISLIKE PEOPLE WITH A ARGUMENTIVE SPIRIT ——- the FACTS remain —"ALL' my levels are now normal !!! one year ago i was a diabetic —-now i am cured !!!!! how do you explain that ???? also you jaybee52 , still owe me an apology because i never came on this site to sell a product !!! i forgive all instances of total blind ignorance !! for my saviour would do the same !!! ————i pray for you !! you are only hurting the people on this site with your very argumentative attitude — "FASTING is the 'ANSWER " that everyone is looking for —— CAUTION: you are being evaluated very carefully by the constituencies of this site !!!! thank you —-
have a very blessed day everyone !!!!! Robert

I applaud the control you've gained over your diabetes also your faith … but I would encourage anyone that considering is fasting to consult their doctor first (or second … after talking to their god).
I practice a form of intermittent fasting where I go about 18 hours between meals two days out of the week … I am a non-insulin using T2 with good numbers and I have very stable BGL (no extreme highs or lows).

I just had my A1C done it and was down to 6.0. No more needle pricks and medicine is reduced by half. SOOO happy. Now to behave and not have it go up again.

According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics …"If there is five grams of fiber or more/serving of a food, you can subtract half the grams of fiber from your total carbohydrate intake of that food. You can only do this deduction if the fiber value is five grams or more"
According to the ADA …"When there are 5 or more grams of fiber per serving, subtract them from the total grams of carbohydrate to determine how much carbohydrate is available"

I tend to err on the safe side and not deduct the fiber ,,, but, in the end does it really matter. what is important is how the food you eat affects YOU.

Gabby , My dr. admitted he didn't know anything about diets and from his girth I am sure he was being honest. But got help from a dietitcian and I am on 1200 calorie, 150 carbs a day. I am a carbaholic. I just read packages and found The thin whole wheat round sandwhich bread by Arnolds works for me. You check the fiber deduct it from the carbs and that is the amount of carbs you are getting. Most meats(protein) do not have carbs or are low in carbs. Great is 97 % fat free boiled ham, chicken, albacore Tuna, wild caught salmon. I buy the Sockeye WIld caught in a can and make a salad or croquettes. A lot of it is reading labels. Go for fresh vegetables. I have lost 15 lbsin the past two months. IGood luck, If possible see if your Dr,. will refer you to a dietitcian.

jonsismac 2014-06-01 12:28:05 -0500 Report

Hi, I don't what diets some of you are following, but did fins a site my Dr. recommended. It is . You need to measure your food which is very easy. You are given so many calories. My BS was way out of control. I know only have under better control and taking less insulin but have lost weight. You have to be honest or it won't work. Your carbs, protein, sugar, sodium is all weighed out for you,no flipping through books. I don't kno if any of you are interested, but if you are I would like to have you friend me and let me know how you are doing. Also you enter any exercise you did that day and it will calculate with your food. It is fun actually.

310…not bad but in the fruit dept I have IBS and Gerd so have to be picky…also with certain veggies. I like meat and hate tofu even tho oldest son is involved in research on it and is semi vegan. Exercise is hard with fibromyalgia and I hate it, but am taking L-Carnitine from same son and CoQ10, and quite a few other vitamins…things people have said lower Blood sugar. Not sure if it works. It's getting expensive. Frustrating. I take 2000 mgs of Metformin. Had to work up to it but no side effects now. I agree on the blood pressure med so I have to talk to Dr about that. Maybe this all started by it. Have taken it for many years plus another…and other meds for other things. I'm 70…meds seem to build up. Even Ins got in to the act and requires I take Lipitor but Dr gave me smallest amt. I'm addicted to popcorn in the eve but am very carb conscious otherwise. I also have sleep apnea so use a CPAP. Hate it. Oh well. I think that consistent strong exercise would change things. BG is usually 135 or below in AM. Jumps from 150's to over 200 at night…before popcorn. M.A

alternative1 2014-05-31 00:24:31 -0500 Report

the blood pressure can be taken care of with a good liver cleanse…since the liver also controls blood pressure and blood glucose…

jayabee52 2014-05-31 01:11:13 -0500 Report

Blood glucose is only "controlled" by the liver as an emergency measure when the BG goes too low, and then it indiscrimanately dumps glucose in the form of glycogen into the bloodstream. It is not very controlled at all for those who have diabetes. .

alternative1 2014-05-31 01:17:21 -0500 Report

yes i know, thats why we need to exercise…to control it.
but most people who have diabetes have a clogged liver…and the liver can't control your blood sugar..and your blood sugar drops …giving you the hypo effect..

jayabee52 2014-05-31 01:43:25 -0500 Report

Alt, I just got done telling you the liver really doesn't control Blood Glucose.

And the exercise you suggest would drive the BG lower which would give one a hypo and trigger a liver dump. Your advice is downright dangerous in this situation.

"clogged liver?" Is that a technical term?

alternative1 2014-05-31 09:01:26 -0500 Report

well jayabee…maybe you should do a little reading…your liver keeps your blood glucose from droping like you mention when it is working properly…and your liver doesn't dump your sugar and give you a low…only because it is dysfunctional…

Not one person has mentioned using a kitchen nutrition scale for helping manage your food intake. Different types of fruits, vegetables and grains (as well as other foods) ALL have different Glycemic Index (GI) values. GI is a measure of how quickly blood glucose levels rise after eating a particular type of food. Cherries, for example, have a lower GI than bananas. That means you can eat more before achieving a similar rise in BG. So use that scale until you can recognize what is the correct portion size for you.

I did my research and found that one of my heart medication was causing elevated sugar levels. Changed it but still high enough that they were considering a booster med or insulin. Luckily I found a natural product and three months later was off of all diabetic meds. I have maintained normal A1C for a year. Do your research and take control. No need to let it debilitate you.

From a baby until 12 years old, I was very healthy, happy, with no health problems at all. But, in the summer, my brother and I both had the mumps, and as soon as we were well, I lost 25 pounds, was always thirsty and needing bathroom breaks. Went to the doctor and was told that I must start insulin. My doctor says it is very possible the mumps "triggered" my diabetes. I beiieve it.
