This is a great question to discuss with a diabetes educator. Some people prefer a certain meter for specific reasons, like the size of the numbers on the screen. Others choose a meter based on which strips your insurance company will cover. A diabetes educator will know about all the meters and can help you make the best decision. ~Lynn @Glucerna

I have found the Bayer's Contour Next meter is more accurate than my One Touch meters. Prior to that, I was using AccuCheck because I liked the barrel of 17 strips with the AccuCheck. Which meter you use may depend on the cost of the strips to you. Last year, I was using the Bayer Contour but this year, I reverted back to the One Touch because that's the only strips that my insurance would cover and at 8 tests per day, the cost adds up. Once I become Medicare eligible, I'll go back to the Bayer Contour.

All meters are incorrect.
I use two meters and from the same puncture, the results vary by 20 mg/dL or more.

I bet if I had another meter, the results would be different as well.

I don't think there really is a "best" meter. I use accu check and relion and found no difference in the two.
