I had my first pedicure three months ago, during a blizzard…I have to admit, my feet felt and looked great. It was the best pampering I had gotten in years, Okay, so now it's summer (or close) and I want to do it again, but my diabetic pedicurist is booked solid and I want to get my feet ready for summer. Does anyone know where a good source of information on doing your own pedis is? Do you do your own or let a professional do them? I'm not taking about diabetic foot care from a podiatrist, unless your doc does polish…I'm speaking of the pampering type of foot care,.
Also, along those lines, I have always been told that diabetics shouldn't wear sandals or open shoes in the summer or anytime for that matter. The potential for cuts, scrapes, etc is too high, So do you wear sandals?Do you have special shoes you wear as a diabetic? Special diabetic socks? I live in my sneakers with orthotics, have no sandals, but some days I admit I'd love to have a pair of nice sandals, sneakers don't dress up a dress any.
Give us your thoughts, summer's coming and it's time to get ready

I have some Croc sandals that are kind of nice, They are open in the back but more closed up front. My toes just peek out. I don't wear them often, but like you said, it's hard to find nice shoes to go with a dress in summer.

I have not had my feet done at a salon, I just try to take care of my own. I use a callous remover, coconut oil and clip my own nails. I don't paint them though, as I can have issues with fungus and I like to keep an eye on them.

I wear sandals all the time in hot weather and I control with diet and exercise, and since I have not had any problems, this is what I do for now. Even though they warned against it in the diabetes classes. I do make sure not to use anything sharp on my feet, and on occasion, when I do get a pedicure, I do not let them either. I wish I could get them regularly, they are so great! I don't wear any special diabetic shoes, but who knows I might have to someday and I do not wear special socks. But I did not walking around so much barefoot, like just outside my house, and on the patio or porch, I don't do that anymore.

Howdy Tpet
I wear clunky ole diabetes shoes year round. Yes even here in hot and dry Las Vegas NV. I like to protect my feet. Don't like leaving anything to chance there. I like to have a podiatrist clip my nails.

I wear sandals a lot living here in az. Lots of hot n sunny days. I go nowhere without shows of some sort, not even in my house. I don't like anyone touching my feet so pedicures are very few and far between. Last one i had was five years ago, but i am thinking of getting one for my b'day next mo.

I wear my sandals and flip flops all summer long. I don't wear them if I am going to be in crowds of people or if I am going to be doing a lot of walking. I have a pair of Cross Training sneakers and a pair that I can just slide on my feet.

I don't need orthotics in my shoes. I also do my own pedicure. I am waiting to break out the flip flops and sandals.
