I ordered an in-home A1c test from the HealthyOutcomes website. I got my results today and it was 5.9! I am so excited! I have been working really hard to get my results down. I also have multiple sclerosis and I feel like there is nothing I can do to improve that condition. But the diabetes I can at least make good changes that will hopefully have positive outcomes in the end. Other than neuropathy in my feet I dont really have symptoms from diabetes. But the ms has had nothing but negative effects on my life so its nice to know that something positive can happen with my health. I feel like for once there is something positive.

Good for you on your number and attitude. It's like getting an A on your report card. When I was first diagnosed with type 2, I was 9.1. I average 5.7 when I'm tested every three months. You should be very proud of yourself!

I know giving up the good treats is always a hard thing to do but sooooooo worth it in the long run. ;-)

DiabetesDiva 2009-02-26 20:14:26 -0600 Report

It's difficult to get back on the healthy eating track again, isn't it? But I know you will, even if it's baby steps. You can do it!

You can buy them at Walmart also if you can't get a free one. I don't think they are much, maybe $10.00 or something and that includes sending it into the lab.

Thank you EVERYONE. :-) Your kind words of encouragement mean everything to me. I dont know if healthyoutcomes is still sending out the tests but I think everyone should try and get one. Its free so you might as well try. Its also very informative. You go to their website watch some videos (learn something) and earn points. Then you have all kinds of diabetic products you can spend the points on. They even cover the cost of shipping. I just think it is sometyhing everyone should do.

Yes, is a great site. Lots of great rewards that everyone can use. I have received many of the items and I really appreciate all that they do for us. Glad you were able to use it and it is so encouraging when the test comes back with such good numbers.

I like the site but I wish they'd quit sending me glucose tablets… LOL I think they reshipped them 3 times now, I have bottles in every flavor known to man!! I only wanted one!!

Oh well with the lows I'm having I'm always covered now with a bottle in every room!

Thankyou I will see about getting myself one and see what it tells me between appts. Won't hurt to see if I can get it down more like Debe did hers. In the 4.? range. Way to go Girl.

highlandcitygirl 2009-01-30 20:35:01 -0600 Report

well, i got on there the other day, got myself a buncha of points and ordered three things. now i am waiting for them to come!

Anngelia 2009-01-31 01:10:27 -0600 Report

I have a ton of points and ordered several things. I got 2 of them but the others havent come in yet. However I think the site was in a beta-testing period when I first got on there but as far as I know they are still sending out product. I will have to go and try to get some glucose tablets, lol.

You should be so proud of yourself. That is a fantastic A1c, and working hard to get it should make you feel great.

Way to GOOOOOOOOO! That is great news to hear. I have to wait another month to see what mine is. My one and only test was so high, I won't even mention it :( That was before insulin and I'm hoping it's really comes down. I'm so glad you got those great results! Take care, Angie

Anngelia 2009-02-03 18:38:38 -0600 Report

You should go to the site. You can get a free test and check your A1c without even having to go to the doctor. I'm not saying that you shouldnt go to the doctor. I just think checking your #s for yourself is good as well. Especially if your watching the numbers come down.

Edie 2009-01-28 21:56:45 -0600 Report

I am glad for you also. My last one was 6.7 or 6.8 I can't remember. But that is ok because the next one is on Thurs. Next week. I hope I do as well if not better than the last time.

Anngelia 2009-02-03 18:35:13 -0600 Report

well I have my fingers crossed for you. It's exciting when your #s go down. :-)

Edie 2009-02-10 22:33:45 -0600 Report

Well I didn't do as well as I could have and that is saying alot for me. the A1c this time is back up to 8.0 the BP was 120/80 pulse was 80 weight was down 3# cholosterol was almost upto 300 again the bad stuff.
Sorry for the bad numbers this time. As soon as I can afford my meds again I will drop the numbers again I hope. In the meantime I am going to keep trying to lose the weight to help bring down some of the numbers that way. Wish me Luck.

Anngelia 2009-02-11 11:32:47 -0600 Report

Edie I know your #s were disappointing but keep your eye on your goal. For the loooooongest time my A1c was always right around 7 (sometimes a little bit over) but in time it did start to drop. I will continue to keep my fingers crossed for you and I'm sure there are lots of others here wishing you the best.

Edie 2009-02-11 12:01:46 -0600 Report

the time before this my numbers were 6.8 and going down not this time. I have been without meds for just over 2 months now.

JaredLahti 2009-01-28 20:44:08 -0600 Report

That is awesome. I have had my last 2 A1C results at 5.6. I was able to get off the Byetta & Metformin with the hope that I will never have to take medicine again.

jaclyncrystal 2009-01-28 16:32:27 -0600 Report

Those results are wonderful, you have worked very hard, I can only pray that mine at the end of February are as good as yours, way to go girl. hugs jackie

Congratulations Anngelia. I can feel the excitement you are feeling about your A1c. I was told by my doctor that from where I started (11.7) to having a reading below 6.0 in six months is an accomplishment of which I should be very proud. You have done a terrific job Anngelia. Keep up the good work.

Anngelia 2009-02-03 18:24:26 -0600 Report

Ken I think going from 11.7 to 6 is fantastic! You should be very proud of yourself. If what they say about the A1c #s is correct your almost cutting your # in half and thats very exciting.

Whooo Hooo, nice result! I got my test kit from Healthy Outcomes this week. My doctor ordered my next A1C to be done in 2 weeks, so I will save the home test for later. My last result was 5.6, but I messed up a little at Christmas, so I hope it hasn't gone up too badly. Keep up the great work. Lisa
