Diabetes can certainly make you feel as if you have lost control of your life. With knowledge and understanding of Diabetes you can maintain control

Without realizing it, we may all be trying TOO hard! Stress in and of it's self can cause your body to react. You may not even realize or even feel stressed. Yet, our bodies instinctively know when we are stressed. and automatically respond Both, the brain and the body have very specific responses in relation to stress.

Acute or Chronic stress (sudden onset or prolonged stress) force the bodies Hypothalamus, pituitary, adrenal and immune systems to react. This reaction triggers the release of stress hormones such as, Glucocorticoids. The brain automatically increases the production and release of the neurotransmitters cortisol, catecholamines, epinephrine, norepinephrine and dopamine and Seratonin. Seratonin is a chemial critical to the feeling of well being. Since stress decreases the production and release of the chemials that are vital to us, the body responds by "Fighting: back!

Our immune systems may be attacked by our own "infection fighters" (white blood cells or WBC's) thereby increasing our risk for auto immune disorders, such as; inflammation, digestive problems, heart and lung problems, and skin problems.

Some individual's report Eczema and or psoriasis or eczema.

Everyone does NOT respond in the same manner, degree or severity with regard to these types of symptoms.

Yet, I hope this will help us to understand a little more about diabetes.

As I mentioned some individual' note a significant weight gain with stress related symptoms. Again, not everyone has the same response as some report a weight loss due to stress. A weight gain may occur as carbo-hydrates are known to release hormones that induce hunger. Carbohydrates are know to increase the production of cortizol and other hormones that help you to feel better. Alas, we have a catch 24 here. The weight loss may be triggered by hormones creating the thyroid to "over-react" thus, creating an overactive thryoid and weight loss.

Anyway, as the body continues to respond and help us return to a normal state all these processes are continually going on. The pancreas may drecrease production of insulin, The parathyroid and thyroid may increase the release of TSH causing and underactive thyroid leading to a weight increase. This may also contribute to the development of insulin resistance. Needless to say, I know that you know what that means. Increased glucose will remain in the blood stream, storing itself as fat and again a weight gain may occur. However, as the sugar or glucose is unable to penetrate the cells, and continues to float around in our blood we are left feeling tired and unable to concentrate. Since, the glucose cannot be utilized by our bodies to make energy.

Virtually every system in our bodies respond to stress. Understanding Diabetes is critical to management.

Understanding you medicine is also extremely important. You need to know when to take it, how to take and and when it takes effect, reaches peak and when it loses effectiveness

Diet is another extremely important aspect to controlling blood sugar. Learn what carbohydrates are and what free foods are and how important weight control is in the management of diabetes. It is also important to monitor caloric intake. Exercise is another important factor in managing your diabetes. Exercise helps the body use insulin more effectively may lead to lower blood glucose levels. Try to make it part of your daily routine. Now, there's a concept; Routine. I think this is critical in helping one to feel in control.

These elements are crucial to your success. So, don't beat yourself up and get obsessive about managing the diabetes. You can manage it. LEARN to UNDERSTAND diabetes BE Consistent and MAKE an affirmation to take control of your Diabetes. You CAN and WILL be a SUCCESS.

We all struggle. Give yourself a pat on the back, know that you are not alone and praise yourself for asking for help.
