I know this is way off topic but I need some help. My computers sound has stopped working. I have done all I know to do. I system restored and I went into device manager and everything says it is working but it does not. Does anyone know what to do? I have a Comnpaq laptop with Windows Vista. Sorry for this but my computer is my lifeline and I play games and like to hear them.

Thank you all for your advice. I have done everything Compaq website told me. I have the latest version of Java. I even System restored to a date when they worked and that did not help. And all you Pogo people I also am on there everyday. I have over 800 badges. I am jmrs1941. I play alot of card games. I love Yahtzee Party too. I will look for all of you. Anyway, computer is driving me nuts. I also updated all my sound drivers. I just cannot get the speakers to have sound thru them. Now I can get it to work thru my daughters headphones but not out of the speakers. I cannot stand wearing headphones. I read in Vista that they have a problem with that but I did their solution and it did not help. So I will try more today. I know just enough about computers to be dangerous. LOL Have a good day everyone. Thanks again for all the advice.

Did you go on Compaq's website and research the problem? Usually the sites have Q & A regarding various issues and/or a forum and/or live on-line assistance, a troubleshooting area, etc.

Depending on what anti-virus program you have, some of them have system checkup abilities. Go into your Control Panel and check the settings in your Sounds & Audio Devices.

I presume you've turned the computer completely off and rebooted. It's amazing how that simple action can often "fix" the problem.

Good luck. Computers are great when they're working right, but also can make you want to take a sledgehammer to them at times.

good answers; unfortunately, all the new computers have vista, and there is no getting away from it.

Two things; if you use earphones, and they are plugged in; that will stop the sound from speakers. And, I have 2 laptops, and both of them, I have had this problem with. Then I noticed when I was picking them up, that there was a switch I kept hitting that turned off the sound.

I felt so stupid, it took weeks for me to realize this and fix.
Sometimes, on the side, very small flip or button switch. Try that, ok

You say you are using Windows Vista. They are having all sorts of problems with Vista not working correctly. It has been reported in the news that Vista is really messing things up big time. If I were you, I would check to make sure that it isn't you're Vista program. If you have a tech support number to call for your computer, I would try calling that.

I have a Dell with Vista too but Vista is known to cause problems. That's what happened with my Java. Good point…

This may or may not help. I play on Pogo all the time and my volume stopped working too. My problem was with Java. I needed to install the newest version of Java. After I did this, the sound works fine. Maybe this will help. Angie

Terrat, go to www.badgeaddicts.com. It's Pogo's site and they never ask for your password. You just have to be logged into Pogo. If it's not on Pogo's home page, it's on badgeaddicts. I have been getting free tokens there for years. Take care, Angie

You probably tried this but did you check to see if all the plugs to the speakers are in snugly? Mine were not and it did not work. Cara

my computer almost shut down on me the other night, i was able to call my server and they are able to go into your computer and fix what is wrong over the phone, hopefully you have a server number you can call. good luck jackie. first question they ask me is did you turn the whole system off and wait and then turn it back on, then they wanted me to check my modium, unplug then replug, just a few things. jackie
