Does anyone take Levemir? I take Lantus right now and it is a horrible drug for me. I am sure it helps a lot of people just not me. I currently take 180 units a day split in two morn. and night. I have talked to a lot of professionals in the medical field who has taken it themselves and they all agree that Lantus will make you gain and retain weight. I am sure it does not everyone but it does for a lot. Like me. I have been told Levemir works good and the weight issue is not as bad. So I am looking for input and advice from people that takes it. I plan on talking to my Dr. about the switch soon.

Just wanted you to know that I have been using it for almost a year now. During that time, I have not put on any weight.

Since I take oral medications as well, Actos and Amaryl, I really haven't lost any weight either.

I was taking both of them when I started the Levemir and so far no weight gain. I don't have any experience with any other insulin, because I have only taken Levemir.

My doctor chose it for me because he did not want me to gain more weight than I already have.

I can tell the difference in my energy levels about 10 minutes after I take it. I feel more awake and active. I have not had any bad side effects at all.

I take 25 units in the morning and 28 units in the evening. It is a long lasting insulin.

Of course you already know because I have seen you mention it in other posts you have made,,,,,no medicine works well for everyone. But I do recommend Levemir. If anyone was going to gain weight on it, I should have. All it takes for me to gain is to look at a chocolate bar. lol

I found this article for you to read. The title is:::

**New Data Shows Levemir Weight Benefit Continues After Two Years of Treatment**

Hope this helps you!!

I was just started on Levemir insulin on Monday nite. I am taking 10u @ bedtime. I am also taking 1000mg glucophage twice a day. My doc said to D/c my Januvia. Since then my sugars have gotten better. I was running in the 140-180 range now I am in the 80's-140's. But I have noticed that I seem to have a lost of gas which I didn't have before. Will take my BS's to my doc next week & discuss the gas with him & see if he wants to adjust the dose. Hope this helps…Betsy

Thank you for your help. I hope the Levemir helps you. I used to take the metformin also but that did not work for me either. So I take byetta novolog r and glyburide and also the dreaded Lantus. I want to change from this so badly. I just hope he will.
