I surely will be praying for you as you're dealing with all of this. Boy, life can deal some ugly blows, can't it? I do hope this is a huge help and really gets you feeling better quickly. You have to stay well & able to keep up with those beautiful grandchildren!

I was on dialysis for 3 years and 24 days. I was running out of veins being I had low blood pressure and my fistulas kept blowing. Next step I had peritonel put in my stomach so I could do home dialysis. Well needless to say after that was put in my stomach and 3 weeks of learning how to do it myself, and with my mother and cousin learning also, I got a severe infection and a temperture of 104. I was ill. Ended up admitted and got the infection "MRSA" form it. I think it was from the poor care a MD gave me when trying to look at it. He took the pad off my stomach , without gloves on let alone no mask. How unsanitary is that? When I questioned him, about not being gloved and masked he looked at me and said, I am a MD, I know what I'm doing. And I came back and said so whats that mean your %*!# don't stink. Well needless to say back to the clinic and on the machines. Oh well soon after that I got a transplant. Oh happy days!!!!!Debe

Sorry you had to go through all that. No fun at all!

I'm having my fistula created Tuesday. I'm not looking forward to dialysis, but I AM looking forward to feeling better (which both my nephrologist and surgeon have garaunteed me!!!). We'll see.

Thanks for sharing. I appreciate it.

Its sad to say but you are going to feel 100% better. Even though I hated going 3 nights a week, I still got to have more pep and energy on it. Theres the good and bad of everything. Dialysis does not hurt maybe getting the needles put in nightly. It didn't seem to bother me though. I did nightturn, wore my pajamas got hooked up watched TV and sleep if I wanted to…Debe

Thanks for the encouragement, Debe! Knowing that the doctors AREN'T just trying to humor me by saying I'll feel better makes a difference!

I'm going to be trying to get on the NxStage, in-home system. It's supposed to "free you up" a bit more. You do it in your home every day for about two hours.

I never heard of it. It sounds interesting though. Does the Nx mean short for next stage dialysis meaning it's a machine to use to help your kidneys before dialysis' or after you are on dialysis?

Actually, I think it means the "next stage" in the progress (advancement) of dialysis machines.

It's a small, portable, in-home unit.
