I went to Publix today for my bread(marble rye, pumpernicle and whole wheat grain) and was looking in the frozen food section and I found all kinds of frozen vegetables that other stores do not have. They had butternut squash, yellow squash. collard greens and turnip greens. All frozen and very inexpensive. I will cook most of them in low sodium chicken broth. But I never knew they had all of that in the frozen food section. I stocked up. Plus I got all kinds of fruit. Apple, oranges, papaya, grapefruit, mangoes. I usually do all my shopping at Wal Mart and Publix produce look so much better. I know you are not supposed to get excited about food but I was tired of the same old thing. So I am going to eat lots of my new veggies this week and make a big fruit salad. They even had single servings of fruit all ready cut up. The sign said they do it daily. Anyway just wanted to share.

We don't have a Publix here either… we have a local huge grocery store though that I always say if they don't have it you don't need it.. lol I wish we had a Whole Foods store here.. that is my favorite store. The closest one is 120 miles a way but I have driven there in the summer just to go there and throw in a few other things to round out the day… lol

And who said you can't get excited about food? As long as it's not cake and cookies you're ok with being excited..!!

I shop Publix half the time and Kroger the rest. I shop at Kroger because my pharmacist is there and I can get .10 a gal off gas.

I do not have a Publix in my area. I do have a Wal Mart SuperCenter close by, but because of my arthritic knees, and the grocery dept. being so big, I don't go there anymore. I can't do that much walking. I know they have the electric wheelchairs, but I am uncomfortable using them. My local grocery is just a couple of blocks from me, and it is easier for me to get around, and they have alot of good produce, and frozen foods, and other items that are good for me to choose from. I am glad that you have such a good grocery to go to.

If you need to use them I say go for it. I use them all the time. I only go to stores that have them. I wish the malls had them.

We don't have a Publix,I actually have never of heard of it until here. Yes, I do agree with Gabby. We too have a Super Walmart that I try and get some walking done there. We if it isn't for the Pepsi truck parking his 18-wheeler in the handicapped area to deliver the pop we might be able to walk in too. But is Publix like a Sam's Club or Cosco's. It where you buy in big supplies? I sure would like to buy some frozen squash and vegetables and mainly at the good price on that…Debe

Nope, Publix is your neighborhood grocery store. Mine employs my neighbors and the clerks learn your name and even pay attention if your spouse is with you or not. They take you to what you are looking for and will get it for you if you can't reach. Many of their store brands are as good or better than the name brands and their sales always help me make ends meet.
Their Pharmacist is wonderful and all of his assistants are great. They are so very helpful it is refreshing. The cool thing about what makes them so great is that they are employee owned and so each person is vested in making your experience one that keeps you coming back.

Publix is FAR better than Wal-Mart. The quality of things is suprior and though the prices seem high on some things, I did a little receipt comarrisons, and it all works out. Plus Publix has much better service.
My husband and I shopped back at Wal-Mart a few weeks ago. Tight times you know. Anyway, besides the fact that I Hate the store, once I got thru and to the check out with my canvas bags...the clerk started bagging in plastic. Ok...I stopped her. Then, as I am a coupon queen, she was going thru my coupons challenging many of the things I bought. I actually had to unpack my cart to get the items I bought that she couldn't find on the receipt. Good grief! I was so flustered.
Then...yes there is more. As we went to the car, a man was pulling into the stripped HC parking loading area. I told him he couldn't park there, but he pulled in anyway. Then my husband, in his wheelchair mind you, went to tell the guy he couldn't park there. This turned into a "Mind your own *&%@ business" comment and a challenge as the guy got out of his car to threaten my husband. WHAT a nightmare.
So, anyway...thanks for letting me vent. I boycotted Wal-Mart 3 years ago. I should have stuck to my convictions. You can bet I won't be going back again.
Publix is tops! Where shopping is a pleasure.

We don't have a Publix in the area I live. I live in South Tennessee and we have Wal-mart Bi-Lo Food Lion Ingles, Save-a-Lot and Cookes Oh and Target but they don't really sell alot of groceries neither does k-mart. I wish we did have a Publix I have been to one but it was on vacation in Brunswick, GA
