I use Lantus, so I adjust the dose if this happens frequently. I also check my blood sugars at around 3 AM. The third option is to make sure the fast acting insulin you use last is not too much.
I hope it all turns out well for you.

What is your treatment method? Lantus? Pump?

As to why you aren't feeling it, if you become too used to going low you notice it less. I would make sure you set up a system for someone to check on you in the mornings until you get it figured out. I went through a phase where I kept going low early in the morning and I stopped noticing until my sister (fortunately) noticed I was breathing funny and got me up enough to get me some juice. That happened at two different times in my life.. both times I was using Lantus insulin and had to adjust the dosage.

Try a high protein bedtime snack such as some cheese or cottage cheese, a hard boiled egg, or a small chicken drumstick to hold you over until morning, protein holds your blood sugar on a more even keel over a longer period of time. The reason you are not feeling it is because you ARE sleeping not doing any other activity. If you were active you bet you would feel it

I also used to use a Glucerna shake at night before bed which kept my blood sugar even. It is the combo of protein and complex carbs that help. I find I am having more problems affording it tho. Anybody know a place where you can get inexpensive Glucerna or a reasonable substitute?

What I do because sometimes at night I don't feel the lows, I set my alarm at 2:00 am and check my sugar. I am trying to get the continous glucose monitor but my insurance its giving me a hard time.

Mt son Alex's has been low too- 56 this morning. We are going to lower his Lantus and see if that makes a difference.
