I've found that the Cure'l anti itch lotion is very good, so is Sarna anti-itch lotion. I like them both especially right out the shower never dry and itchy. Hope this helps.

When my sugars are high my under arms itch. That was one of the things I asked my doctor about. She said there could be any number of reasons. After she figured out I was diabetic. She told me when my sugars were high I would have the itches.. When it was good they would be gone. She was right.

Shortly before I was diagnosed with diabetes I complained to my doctor about itching and she told me to take one Benedryl at bedtime. I've been doing this for maybe four years now and have not experienced any abnormal itching.

When my blood sugars were high I also itched alot. But now that I have better control and I itch it is because of winter. I use Eucerin Body Wash and then Eucerin Calming Lotion. It feels really good.

Diabetes will cause itching. I just use lotion. That sure helps a lot.

Thanks everyone for all your input I normally have dry skin especially in the winter that my fingers crack open. I have noticed the itching since I have no job and no way to pay my bills, I have been worried and stressed out about that.

Hi Charla. Do you have a health clinic in your area that might help with your medication? I hope you do because I see you are trying to control it with diet. Without your supplies, it's hard to tell if your BS readings are too high, too low. I know how expensive the test strips are too, it's horrible. Please check and see if they can help. You are in my prayers and I want you to feel better. Your friend, Angie

There are many possible reasons for the itching. I would consult a dermatologist and talk with my regular MD. Medications can sometimes cause it, or something you eat. Thyroid problems (hypo and hyper), as well as some other internal problems can cause it. Good old stress can cause it. (Stress can affect any and everything!) You need to try to pinpoint when it began, and make notes of when it acts up. Can you associate it with any particular time…any particular change in medication, etc.? When does it act up? Good luck getting to the bottom of it.

There are tons of reasons for itchy skin. One that I recently found out is hypothyroidism. It causes dry skin. Also, your water with all the chlorine in it. We have a reverse osmosis filter on our whole house and it made a huge difference. If you have hard water you have stuff on your skin.

One thing that I have been using with great success is Aveeno body wash with oatmeal. It gives me softer skin without the oily break outs of most moistureizers.

I itch a lot, too. I usually put it down to winter, but maybe it's not. I'm going to start checking my sugar when I itch & see if it's any different.
I'll be back.

One thing I use is Oil of Olay Body Wash. That seems to help at times.

There's something else I thought of that I used to do for my itching. In the winter I used to take Vitamin A & that seemed to stop it. But I don't think it has anything to do with Diabetes. I'm going to try it again.

In the winter I have dry skin alot. Use some type of lotion for dry skin, maybe something with aloe. Also, maybe try a different type of soap, one for dry skin.

never even considered the fact that my sugars were causing me to claw myself, I could just never stop itching, my arms and then my legs when the support stockings came off, I have to admit that in the past few months, my itching is sooo much better, now people have stopped telling me to sit on my hands. jackie

glad you are better as well, just read about to my husband and he said my sugars must have been high for the past few years. I too believe in a nice thick moisturizing cream. jackie

I totally agree with Debe. When my BS was running so high before I knew I was diabetic, I was clawing myself to death. My back and chest also broke out in a rash. When I started insulin and my numbers came down, the itching and rash went away. My skin is still a little dry, but I use a lot of good lotion and it is working for me now. Hope you get better! I think it is associated with blood sugars being high. I know when my BS were hi I itched alot. I would like to see what others think…Debe

My skin itched alot just before I was dx. My bs were about 375 at time of diagnoses. I never really put the 2 together but maybe it was because of the high sugars. I haven't really noticed any itching for 8-9 months now.
