Hi everyone,
Now that the holidays are over, my husband, daughter, son-in-law and I are talking about doing a body detox/colon cleanse. I'm very concerned about how safe this is for diabetics. I'm the only diabetic in my family but my husband is a cardiac patient. Does anybody know anything about colon cleanse products? Any good ones, any homemade ones? I'd prefer something homemade and short lived. I've read about some that take 30 days and I'd love something that is faster than that, such a 3-5 days. I'm interested to hear what everyone has to say about this. I prefer not to check with my doctor and please don’t yell at me for that. I’ve talked to just a few people and they said that doctors don’t really recommend this, ya know….just like they don’t recommend chiropractors. So please let me know what you thing about this. Have you tried anything like it? Did it work? Thank you everyone.

There is one new product that claims to get your body back on tract by using probiotics naturally. I do not remember the name but it is made by a vitamin company. They sell it at Wal Mart. It is 30 dollars. I will look the next time I go. I did ask my doctor about it and his standard line was to eat more fiber and drink the new Plum Smart juice. He claims it works and you will not loose nutrients. But I have to have a colonoscetomy(spelling) soon so I will be "cleaning" out my system from the prep. LOL

I feel that fine. The prep is prescribed. You are under your MD care there. I just want some friends to know I had a friend on dialysis. As a dialysis pt be sure to question your MD first before taking this prescribe prep it can hurt you. Good luck with your test, I'll pray everything goes fine…

The product i was talking about is made by Phillips. It is supposed to do the cleansing gradually over time not all at once like a cleanse would.

Seems that I've discovered a colon cleansing product right in the produce section!! LETTUCE!!! I had no idea it would have such an effect, but it sure has! I feel tons better since eating more salads, we have a 'salad night', and I cut up a head of Iceberg lettuce, and some salad fixin's, and we make our own Chef's Salads.

went to ohio for thanksgiving, the long ride messed me up. when i got there i asked my daughter if she had something to help. she came up with an old bottle of milk of magnesia. i should have known not to take it when it wouldn't hardly come out of the bottle! it was like clabber. i took it anyway, needless to say, i was most thoroughly cleaned out! never take that stuff when it is clabbered, you'll stay in the reading room for the rest of the night!

All of these natural remedies are GREAT! I'm trying really hard to get back to natural, it's not as easy as it seems!

I agree with Claudia and Debe. Another thing that we hear about often is fasting, and diabetics really do not need to do that either for obvious reasons. You hear that it's good for you, etc., but diabetics unfortunately cannot play with their BS like that.

yes, I do, I have had to use them before an illeostomy, and I can tell you that you can loose nutrients and vitamins as well as dehydrate yourself, alone can be very dangerous. Only advice i can give, only use prescribed by doctor who knows you and your family illness' and what with all the problems with the natural and over the counter drugs, I would not even try unless it was a well trusted product. DO not do this without doctors advice. Claudia

I wanted to do one, well needless to say my MD looked at me like I was crazy. Lilmarm is right. The loss of body fluids include all nutrients and potassium. Low potassium is a serious sign. I also can cause a heart attack. Yes, all these new products claim to for you to lose 20-30#? Hell yeah you actually poop yourself to death. But when you go and drink just water your body will continue to put the weight back on automatically. I have had low potassium many times, and take a potassium supplement most of my life, so if your MD doesn't refer you to this , stay away…Debe
