My ankles will swell almost twice their size and my big toe is tender on the bottom. It gets hard to get motivated to walk on a tread mill or even a short distance. It feels like I bruised my bone in my big toe. Any suggestions?

Thanks lanykins for your input. Do you call an ulcer what is near a callus?

No Ninja, a callous is hardened skin that can build up very thick and high. An ulcer is an open wound, or cut, that won't heal. I got the ulcer when my callous split down the middle and cut my toe. Hope that helps.

I have had swollen ankles and toes for the past 6 months. My cardiologist put me on a water pill to flush out the fluid and the blood pressure pill to lower my BP and also help with getting rid of the fluid. I was instructed to keep my feet up as much as possible. I have an unhealed ulcer on my toe and the raising of my feet helps that too. Well, I've been doing all of this since I got the ulcer in March. The swelling has gone down in my ankles but not my feet. It also really increases if I am on my feet more than an hour. I wish there was a real and lasting answer to this.

Yes, they gave a prescription for water pills on my last visit. Your suggestion elevating my feet is something that I do at work. Good suggestion Gabby. It really works.

Did they give you any water pills to help reduce the water retention? That might be something to ask about. Also, elevating your legs can help. I know when I sit too long at my computer, my feet get swollen.

I have the most trouble with swelling when I sit at my computer. My legs are down and not moving, not so good. Walking for awhile doesn't help either. I'm glad you mentioned the computer, Gabby

The doctor prescribed some medication that flushes the extra water as well. When I walk for for less than a mile, that is when they swell. My blood sugar was high during that time. The issue with my big toe is still there. I don't understand it. Thanks for your insight. It was insightful.

How's you bs doing when the swelling happens ?
Doc's got me on pills to shed the extra water and as long as I keep the bs low then they don't swell on me

Howdy Ninja
What, if anything has your Dr done or told you to do to minimize your water retention?

Should you wish to exercise, you could go to YouTube and put "seated exercises", "seated yoga", or "seated TaiChi" in the search box. That may help you to get and keep moving.

God's best to you and yours

Have you let your doctor know about the swelling and how your toe feels? It's definitely something to talk about with him. ~Lynn @Glucerna
