I was diagnosed in October, 2013 with a 744 bl. It was difficult for me to learn how or what to eat. I agree what some people eat, others cannot. I followed a diabetic diet, I was checking levels 1st thing in morning, before and 2 hours after every mean and injecting insulin before every meal but my blood levels were slow to come down. My Doctor put me on a diet of lean protein and vegetables only. It was tough, but my numbers have dropped and stay consistently below 110, I've lost 25 lbs and no longer inject but take metformin.

Eating is still very difficult for me. I have no appetite, but make myself eat. right now my BL was 87 and I have no appetite. One of my best friends has become vegetable or 1 point soup from weight watchers. you can fill it with all kinds of vegetables, have it tomato based or not. I drink a big mug of it for breakfast (my most difficult meal to plan) and later in the day for a snack. It helps maintain my BL and me is a comfort food

Just Joyce I will be going in three weeks to see a diabetic nutritionist. And they want me to check my BL at wake up and before every meal and two hours after the first bite. They want me to be very careful on carbs and drink lots of water. My BL was 574 when I first went to doctor with symptoms. So they have put me on metformin and Lantus. I am being very careful with everything that I put in my mouth.

I'm glad you have an appointment with a nutritionist, and in the meantime you're taking steps to learn more about diabetes and how different foods affect you. You're being proactive, which is wonderful! ~Lynn @Glucerna

You should speak with a nutritionist about foods you can eat and come up with a meal plan. Some of us may be more controlled than you and can eat foods you probably can't have at this time. This is why it is very important to speak with a nutritionist who can give you the professional help you need. You should also ask your doctor how many carbs you can have per meal. Some of us can have different amounts and we eat based on our carb intake per meal. You should also be testing after each meal to find out what will spike your blood sugar. I am in control of my diabetes and eat what I want to eat in moderation.

For breakfast I had a boiled egg, Stopped and got coffee and a donut. Lunch was toasted cheese with chopped up bacon which half a pineapple ring.was fresh cut pineapple and dinner was tuna salad on Wheat.

What great ideas for meals! Pattycakes3467 I want to encourage you to ask your doctor for a referral to a registered dietitian/diabetes educator. They'll answer your questions and help you develop a meal plan that fits your needs. ~Lynn @Glucerna

I totally agree with you. Some of us cannot eat what others eat. She may not be as controlled as some of us are. She also should be finding out what causes spikes and what doesn't.

The key for me is to keep my carb intake low. I try to limit myself to 120 grams of carb per day. My breakfast is 30 grams and consists of 2 slices of Light Rye Wasa brand crisp bread with 2 tbsp of sugar-free jam or fresh fruit and 1/3 cup Fage brand plain Greek yogurt. Lunch is usually an apple, cored and sliced and spread with 4 tbsp of all natural (Smucker's) peanut butter. That comes to 45 grams of carb. Dinner will vary but again is 45 grams of carb. Sometimes I'll have a salad. Tonight it was cold rotisserie chicken with cole slaw and one thin slice of bread and an Atkins Peanut Caramel Cluster bar for dessert. I made blueberry muffins for my husband but I won't eat them since I feel they are higher carb than I want.
