Just wondering if anyone with Type 2 diabetes has any stomach Digestive problems? I was just diagnosed last week with Gastroparesis, a stomach disorder with digesting my food. Mine was pretty bad, only 35% of my food was digesting as they did this study on me. Just curious to see if anyone has had these problems.

Howdy DD
At times think I might have gastroparesis, but I haven't seen a MD to check it out, so I don't know for sure.

I do know that it can be a real difficult time controlling one's Blood Glucose (BG) levels with gastro.

Praying that your gastro improves and you can digest food normally again

It is so confusing. I went to the Gastro today and he won't give me needs cause there are to many side effects! So its diet to maintain it. The problem is, is that all the food that is ok to eat, is not that great for someone with Diabetes. It's not easy. Will probably need to see a Nutrionist.

I have Gastroparesis and you are absolutely correct. The food plan for it is exactly opposite of a good diabetic diet. I was encouraged to eat very low fiber, high carb, exceedingly digestible foods. Juice, NOT fruit. Just about no veggies unless they were super steamed and falling apart. It is so crazy because I would get to the point where there was nothing for me to eat. If I ate for the diabetes, I felt sick. If I didn't feel sick, my blood sugar was thru the roof. I did have a Botox injection in my pyloric sphincter (the valve between stomach and intestines) about 3-4 years ago and that made me much better. Now, I can eat a small salad with dinner maybe twice a week at the most or I have problems. Because I process food so slowly, it makes it much more difficult to match up the food and the insulin time wise. I usually take my insulin about 30-45 minutes after I eat for everything to meet up properly. So, for me it's not just about the carb count, it is also how digestible it is. Because of this, I tend to eat the same 20-30 food all the time. I tend to stick a lot to yogurt, applesauce, Dole fruit cups. I also go toward lots of protein so that I am full without too many carbs, but, it has to be easily digestible protein. There are a LOT of negative side effects to the drugs for GP. The one that was one of the best is no longer legal in the US. You can get it in Canada, but, I don't know that I feel good about that. I did take it years ago when it was still ok here. Basically those meds help to move the food thru your system more quickly

Very true…this is all so confusing to me. Very true about the food. I went through the list and read the food and told my husband what a joke! I can't have half this stuff cause I have diabetes! I guess I need ti see a nutritionist. I am so confused with all this stuff. Suzzee, how long have you had it? My Dr. won't give me the Meds cause he said there are too many side effects. So it's mainly just diet. No Fun…

Same with me, I also think that I have a problem. I don't know for sure either but sometimes it sure feels like there is a problem.

My appt. isn't until June. That's the earliest I could get in, and they said they have a huge waiting list with 12 endo available. I am haveing to go to the next state over just to get an endo Dr. But I will post when I find out something.
