Today went to a doctor's office to get new scripts. I wasn't seeing my new PCP because there were no available appointments. I am leaving on March 25 to go see my Mom and Dad in Missouri. This doctor was rude ignorant and unprofessional. Not listening to me is one thing. Giving me a lecture is another about how their medical facility doesn't do things like this. All I wanted was a new scripts for my diabetic meds. Not any narcotics. He forgot the Hippocratic oath as well. I have found out I have PTSD. Upsetting a person with Type 2 diabetes, depression, and PTSD isn't wise eh? So called the nurse Tina who was great! And transferred me over to the complaint phone line. So tomorrow I will be asking is this there S.O.P. aka Standard Operating Procedure? We shall see eh? What do you think? Also is there any Android apps good for diabetics to use? Thank you

When I used to have to buy my on meds at the BI-LO pharmacy they used to refuse me only because my doctor wouldn't call in to renew my prescription until she saw me, so therefore I couldn't get my metformin, lisinopril, simvastatin, or my lantus insulin. But now I don't have to worry about getting anything because I now go to the V.A. outpatient clinic since I'm a veteran, and the only med I take now is metformin.

Good for you. My husband was a vet and used VA Hospital for all his medical needs. The VA Hospital was terrific for him. Wish that I too could use them.

Well the idiot Doctor was reported. Having been trained as a phlebotomist I know more than most. I also relayed that to the admin. So they can realize I do know the rules and ropes. I asked them if this was S.O.P. aka Standard Operating Procedures. LOL If so I will go elsewhere and make sure to report this place EVERYWHERE! LOL Thus quick reply for my meds. The pharmacy was not told why I needed more meds. So once informed it was taken care of in short ordered fashion. No hassles whatsoever. LOL so almost set for my trip to see my Dad and HelenMom along with my twin brother. Hugs

Hope you have a great time on your visit home. Question: does your twin brother also have Diabetes? The reason that I am asking is that I have genetic Diabetes 2, because my grandparents on both sides of the family had Diebetes. But my younger sister has Multiple Sclerosis (no Diabetes) and we have no idea where it came from. I thank God that if I have to have a disease, that I have Diabetes because she is in a wheelchair and cannot do much for herself and I would really hate living like that.

That is against the law, no doctor or pharmacy can refuse you your meds that keep you alive, I would report him to the medical board and where you need them now I would try to find a phone number to call and report this doctor. I wish you luck and hope you get the meds you need. I hear you doctors these days just don't get it they are run by the government and are afraid to do anything even at the cost of the patients health, ok I could go on forever about doctors take care and hope all works out well:)

Hi Joyce; Read your discussion to me and thought I would reply. It's not that this particular Dr. didn't believe in God (he belonged to a very prominent church) he thinks he is God. At that particular point in my life, I didn't need to know that. Had I had the chance I would have stopped the surgery. The fact is, I woke-up during that surgery and heard him say, " If this F________ B______ wasn't so fat this would be a lot easier." When I said "I just heard you!" Out I went again. So when I did go to the Hospital Director it was to complain about both issues. I felt I was owed an apology for both. It's not to much to ask for a little nice bedside manner. All he had to say to me was "okay". That would have ended that. The other issue was another matter. As I mentioned later down to Kaydoo, I was a Veterinarian Tech for a number of years. I assisted in many many surgeries and I can honestly say, I never heard one Dr, use language like that in surgery or in the office. I would have been fired on the spot if I wasn't conducting myself in a professional manner at all times at all times. Not one Dr. ever put themselves between man and God. It is a shame animals get treated with more respect then some humans do. I respect your right to choose the beliefs of your choice. But, I have the right to mine too. Frankly, I just wanted him to do his best, I wasn't ready to die, but if I did I know what would happen to my soul. Thanks for answering me. Gave me a lot to think about, but I still think that Dr. is a jackass.

I agree the Dr. is a jackass. I know ministers in my community who are prominent and they are as far from being Christian as a rock.

I worked at a hospital for patients needing spinal cord, head trauma, stroke and para/quadriplegic rehab. The Chief of Medicine was a doctor no one liked. He was arrogant, egotistical, smarter than anyone else in his field and never saw patients unless he was snowed in with the rest of the hospital staff. I wouldn't let him put a bandage on a dog. He thought the Patient Service Manager was adorable so he took money from out department to renovate her department. This was a State Hospital and when the State Auditors found out what he had done, he had to replace our funds. He then decided they could generate more money if he had doctors submit paper work to Medicare. One doctor quit and all but two refused. Before the paperwork was submitted he was discovered. Nope they did not fire him. The only thing he was good at was Kissing Butt of prominent people. He finally left and went to the larger hospital that took us over. He became Director of Thoracic Surgery. He had not operated since he kissed butt up the ladder. He has since died.

No not everyone should be in the medical field. Filing your complaint may have made you feel good but they did nothing to the doctor. I would have said something to him and he would not have liked it.

Animals in many cases are treated better because they can't speak for themselves and their owners will. People can speak for themselves yet when badly treated say nothing.

Hi Joyce: That was my point after all…not all MD's are jackasses but there are those (unfortunately) who are. It's unfortunate for me, but I seem to have attracted them. Now I have a great team and care very much for each and everyone of them. Your experience with this MD that you just spoke about is a true ASS but of a different kind. That surgery I've spoken about left me wheelchair bound and unable to walk. He got me in more ways than one.

Hi Trudie: Thanks for the support, I needed that…I do agree some of the younger generation has lost their sense of values and I for one don't know how to fix it. I just know when I get the chance I like to talk to young people. A couple actually listened. I don't mean about the Bible or Jesus but about life, their goals and so on. Some of their answers surprised me. Some have a real need to be listened to. So I can't write of all young people. Just their parents for not teaching them in the first place. That goes for my own son's and their children. But, back to Dr.'s: This MD that wronged me was actually older than I. By several years mind you. He just had a God complex. To bad for him…

Just Joyce
Just Joyce 2014-03-21 13:36:26 -0500 Report

Trudie, everyone thought that taking prayers out of school was a bad thing. These days there are so many different religions that prayers will never be returned. The problem isn't prayer the problem is that there are parents who do not discipline their children. We were taught respect and good manners. Talking back to a teacher in my house would have gotten us killed or close enough to death we wished we died.

I was working and got laid off. I started working at a school in the community. A parent was at the door observing her sons class. Apparently her son dropped something and it broke. I heard the teacher say, "God does not like bad little boys" The parent very quietly and politely chewed out the teacher. I sat in my office and did nothing. The parent told the teacher that they were Jehovah Witnesses. She went to the office and complained to the principal and the teacher almost lost her job.

When I was in school we started out with the Pledge and The Lords Prayer. The Jehovah Witness kids did not recite either. You really can't tell people at any age to pray. They would be offended. This is why I say I do not tell anyone to have a blessed day. I also do not take religious tracts that people try to give me. People have their own beliefs and I am not one to force my beliefs on others.

I agree I wonder about the younger generation. When they take over the world better watch out. Not all of them are bad they just need guidance.

Trudie Ann
Trudie Ann 2014-03-21 13:59:50 -0500 Report

I agree. We also started out with the Pledge of Allegiance. But they never require anyone who didn't believe in it to participate. They were never made to. I always thought that even those who didn't participate had respect for those who did. I guess the courts thought different.
I also was taught to say sir and maam, and to respect my elders.

Did you know a majority of the flags in this country are made in China? How can a country like this allow their flags to be made in another country. We always said the Pledge Of Allegiance in school. They still do that in some schools. My neighbors son was so excited because he was called to the office to lead the schools Pledge over the intercom. We have my fathers brothers flag that was on his casket. The thing is huge and heavy. He died in the 60's.

People have a right to not respect the flag or the people who Pledge Allegiance to it. In fact it seems that people these days think respect is automatically given. Respect like trust is earned.

Hi Tsalagilenape; Whew…Hope I spelled that correctly. Now, that's a screen name. Anyway, after reading all replies here it has left me little more to say. But, I will try,,,LOL!!! With most of my problems I spend a lot of time in the hospital or Dr.'s offices. I've had my fair share with jackass Dr."s and nurses. As a now Senior Citizen, I absolutely refuse to be treated in that manner. I too suffer from clinical depression and PTSD as well as extreme anxiety disorder. I can be a real jackass too when backed into a corner. As a result I've fired my fair share. But I feel compelled to tell you that's one for the books and absolutely true. 6 years ago I had a big, major surgery on my hip and femur. During the last surgery of this same nature (different Dr,) I died on the table. They revived me and I remained in a coma for 31 days. Anyway you can understand my apprehension to having another surgery of the same type. AS they wheeled me into the surgery room I stopped the surgeon and said, "Last night I prayed to the Lord for your wisdom and to bless your hands and skills. For myself that I would survive this surgery with no problems." With that his reply was, "Hell you don't need God, you have me." Then they put me out as I got hysterical. Had I had my way that surgery would have been stopped. I came out okay, but fired him anyway. When he asked why I simply told him, "Because I need God, I don't need you. Your a dime a dozen." To end this story, when I reported this to the hospital they refused to do anything about it. They simply wrote it off as a Bible thumping crazy old lady against a fine surgeon. Yes, I've had my fair share too. So sorry you had to face what you did.

Sometimes I think some of the younger doctors think all seniors are just old, stupid, Bible thumpers.. I then wonder how they will feel when they get old. Us seniors have not lived this long by sticking our heads in the sand. I learned more from my parents and grandparents about life and self sustaining. Raising a garden, plants and herbs, raising livestock, They had wood burning kitchen stoves, now that is a true art cooking on a wood stove. The main thing they taught was God's Word.

Trudie, they think they are blind and deaf also.

I agree, we older people didn't get where we got with our heads buried in the sand. We lived in a real world and nothing was viewed through rose colored glasses.

I grew up in the city and we had a wood stove and a gas stove in out kitchen. We would get coal delivered in our basement. My grandmother taught me how to make toast on the wood stove. My mother would make soup and other dishes on the wood stove to keep it warm. We went to church on Sunday and we learned to respect our elders.

I remember visiting relatives in the county and not wanting to go to the bathroom because it was outside. We had to get up in the morning and prime the pump so we could have water. I was so glad when they got running water and septic tanks. If you take half the young people today and put them on a farm they would not make it two weeks.

JJ, I go back to visit the farm where I grew up from time to time. (plan on going back for a reunion this July)

Actually the kids on the farm today could be in the city, as outside of a few mimimal chores. there seems to me really no difference. They have satellite TV, video games, ect to entertain them.

My oldest son visited the farm on which I grew up (in the '60s and 70s,) I sent him back in 1990s sometime and he didn't leave the house at all. He spent the majority of his time on a video game and on TV watching. I was disappointed in that I wanted him to get a taste of the farm life I experienced. But that life was no more.

James there are kids in my community who have never been to the zoo, much less a farm. some have computers and game consoles, some don't. We have tried many times to get them interested in gardening. Even the kids in our 4H group won't garden and other than a cat or dog, they will not go near farm animals.

Yes I know that farms have the technology and the kids on the farms do come to the city. The city kids in my community would not be caught dead on a farm and even if they were forced to live on one they would not survive.

Valentine, one of the reasons I never say have a blessed day to people I don't know is because they may not share my belief. Not that I have many when it comes to religion. There are some doctors who think they are God.

I would never have said that to a doctor because I don't know if he or she believes in God but for him to say what he said, was rude. I know from working in a hospital, many complaints from patients are ignored unless the persons complaint has to do with medical care. Had they said something to the doctor, all he had to say was I don't believe in God. What are they going to do? Nothing. They can tell him to not be rude but he did not break any rules or laws.

I have a former neighbor who is a doctor. She said a patient told her you saved my life and I thank God for that. She said no I did not save your life, I prolonged your life. Only God determines who lives or dies. She said nothing I can do will save your life if God wants you with him. She said her patient who happened to be a Minister said young lady you are wise and very correct. God takes us once his plan for us is completed and nothing any of us can do will stop that.
You may need God, it is clear he didn't and odds are he might have been offended. What would you have done if he was the best surgeon there is and his response had been "Well that is good but I don't believe in God".

My neighbor was highly offended when she said to me that I needed Jesus in my life and you need to read the Bible and my response was, I don't need Jesus in my life because I do not believe in Jesus and I refuse to read the bible. She stopped talking to me about Jesus and the Bible. She said she learned something valuable because her husband always told her to stop thumping the Bible at people because not everyone believes in God, Jesus or reads the Bible. She said until I told her that, she never realized how many people she may have offended.

I think even though the doctor was rude in his response, he was probably offended and you were the last straw so he took his offense out on you. I would not have filed a complaint because there was nothing they could do to really punish him and had they fired him, he could have sued and won.

Kayadoo I know from working in a hospital that not all nurses are sweet an angelic. Some of them are the nastiest people on the planet. For some all the job is to them is a paycheck.

My former boss is an RN. She has the compassion of a piece of wood and cannot stand anyone who is sick. She got out of the business of hospital care and started a non profit. Three hospitals fired her before she got enough money to go into business for herself after her divorce settlement. She was married to an abusive doctor who paid for her education including her Masters Degree.

I actually changed vets because the vet was nasty. I cheered when she got arrested for not euthanizing a dog. I was in the office the day they brought the dog in because he was dying from cancer and the owners wanted the dog euthanized because he was suffering. A month later, the owners were driving past the vets office and saw her lifting the dog which was in a cage with a hydraulic lift into the back of her pickup truck. She kept the dog alive for a medical experiment. She lost her license, the company fired her and she went to jail for 5 years. The owner of the dog sued her and the Vet that owned the business. I fired her because she dragged my dog down the hall because he wasn't walking fast enough for her. I literally handed took her head off. The vet that owned the business took car of our baby until he passed away.

I have had pretty good doctors. Its their nurses that suck. I basically pay very little attention to nurses. I have had nurses so nasty I have made them walk away from me. I just got another doctor because I could not stand to be in the room with the other one. Now if they got rid of the nurses and got new ones things would be better. I swear they take an evil pill prior to coming to work. They simply talk to the patients any way they choose.

If a doctor is lecturing you and you don't want to hear it, why sit and listen to him/her. The last time a doctor did that to me, I waited until he finished and asked him what did he say. I simply voice my opinion about what happened and move on to the next item on the list.

Doctors are people with the same faults as everyone else. Just like any other person they will try you to see what kind of reaction they will get from you. If a person knows they can upset you, they will continue doing what they are doing to you. No where is it written that a diabetic can't be upset. The doctor upset you because you allowed it. I do not let anyone I am paying upset me, I fire them. The thing to do is to stop allowing people in doctors offices including the doctors as well as other people in you life get to you. The minute they realize they can't get to you they will stop. They learn they have no more power over your emotions. I hope you enjoy your visit.

I have not found a diabetes app for android that continues to work the way it should especially after an update. I have uninstalled them, reinstalled them and still had problems with them. Like you I am looking for a good android app for diabetes.

The medical center has two doctors who specialize in Geriatric Care. The nurses are awful to the Senior Citizens. They yell at them and many of the Seniors ask that they not do that. One nurse told a patient he needed to take his psychiatric drugs. His daughter was with him and WW3 broke out. She lit into the nurse who could not defend what she did. Turned out she mixed up patients. The man was there for a physical and not on psychiatric medication. I did out reach at every nursing home in the city where I live a few years ago. I went in places I would not let a dog enter. You really have to check out these places before putting someone in them.

I was in the hospital years ago and my mom brought me a fruit basket. I woke up the next morning and an apple was missing. I had not opened it. The next night I woke up to find two nurses raiding the basket. When they snuck out of the room I picked up the phone and called security and reported the theft. The next day the hospital administrator and Nurse Administrator was in my room. Their supervisor wanted to know why I didn't call her. I said you would have covered for them. The two nurses ended up getting fired. Apparently it was not the first time they had stolen from patients.

We paid for my dads newspaper delivery while he was in the nursing home. He was not getting his paper. I called and the delivery person said she labels each of the patients newspapers and leave them at the nurses station on the first floor. I went in and low and behold the nursing staff were reading the patients papers and not delivering them. I contacted the administrator and the nursing home paid us back for the papers and we stopped the delivery. They got into trouble for not delivering the papers to the patients.

There are good and bad people working in the medical field just as there are good and bad medical facilities. It is how you allow them to treat you that matters. They lost his clothing. I made the staff find them. They never knew when I would show up so they did not mistreat him. I put them on notice and told them you never know when or what time I will show up, If I find him being mistreated you will pay dearly.

WOW, that sucks to hear that about a medical professional. Sorry to hear you going through that, just do the best you can, and make sure the people that run the clinic hear about it…
I haven't looked for any diabetic apps on Android but I have heard there is a reminder app that helps keep your info organized. I will try to see if I can find where I read about it.

Tim, I had one of those and it was horrible after it was time to update. I simply didn't work as well as it should have. I think the best thing not to do is to update. I updated Words with Friends and could not use it for almost a month. This was after I uninstalled it. Found out they got the bugs out of it and reinstalled and have had very few problems.
