A1c score - last week was 6.1% and before that 7%. Yet I got a letter "praising" me for my control!

I was surprised the 7% A1c was so acceptable. I have always thought that it had to be below 6.5% to not cause problems. My eye exam was perfect, I have not neropathy and skipped the urine test? whatever that is for until next time. Any comments?

LIke someone said, it can differ with different circumstances and health. I sort of celebrated yesterday, and a small red potato, a piece of corned beef and a bunch of cabbage and carrots. (oh a piece of sourdough bread). Back on track today.
Take care

The urine test is looking for keytones or proteins in your urine so that they can make sure your kidneys are healthy.

An A1c of 7 is the minimum goal for most doctors and their diabetic patients. Getting into the 5's and 6's is even better.

My A1C is6. My doctor told me thats pre diabetes. I lost 35 lbs and its still a 6!. So discouraging.

That should not be discouraging. It should feel good. What do they want you to get to? That is an accomplishment, I think!

My dr has told me acceptable is under 6. So I think it really is the determination of each persons dr what is acceptable.

The term “acceptable” really depends on several factors I found out. For folks like myself with a family history of heart disease, and being overweight, an A1c of 6 or below was my “acceptable” goal. If you’re in otherwise good health, active, and eating right, quite frankly at your age my doctor would consider that acceptable (but it couldn’t hurt to lower it a tiny bit).

My understanding is that a urine test is to check kidney function and type II's should have it done annually.
Acceptable is a funny concept. In my mind 'acceptable' is 5.6 or less (currently I'm at 5.9, but working on it).

Thats awesome! Mine was 7.7 my endo said that was good for being my age which is 19! But im deff shooting for 6.5

dIDYMUS 2014-03-16 21:08:26 -0500 Report

I always though it was under 6.5. But I am 64, only DX in the last 4 years. Take care, you are so young, and I think it is much harder then. Best Wishes!
