Spring is Comming...What Are Your Plans?

This has been a long hard winter for so many with the snow, snow, snow and ice. Cabin fever is setting in and I know I am ready to get out and have some fun. (I know, I don't live where it snows, but it has been cold here, and for us southern folks…cold is still cold) I got my first sunburn of the season this weekend working in my garden. Not a bad one, but it gives me hope for more days of fun.

There is a great article on getting out of your comfort zone when getting outdoors to have fun. http://diabeteshealth.com/read/2014/02/27/816...

What I loved about this article is that it not only covered topics like trail hiking, camping, and cruises, it also gives check lists of how to keep yourself safe on the travel style you choose.

What are your plans for the warmer months? (they are coming…I promise)

It's been quite awhile since I've connected with you all but I have been real sick. I had an infection in my big toe that went into the bone & unfortunely I lost that toe.
But for the topic…I live in OK & I love the snow..When spring rolls around then the storms roll around & I'm scared of those. I'm nervous until that season is gone.

HI Gabby,

I probably say this every year but I am looking forward to warmer weather so much that I might not even complain about the nasty heat and humidity in July. We had 50 degrees on Saturday. Just getting out and walking was a blessing! More walking in warm weather, and not rushing to get to the next heated room, is what I am most looking forward to.

Getting my favorite car out of winter storage and getting it tuned up is first. I'm a car nut thru and thru. Probably so some outside activity with my boys and the granddaughter.

We have another member here (that I know) who loves his old rides as well. Nothing wrong with taking them for a spin. Maybe to a place where you can get out and play for a while.

Funny, seems I have the same plans every year and they still don't get done! So on the list AGAIN is the house, the yard, and getting ready for a group of ballerinas that come to stay with us for 3-4 weeks every summer. Now, let's see if we can finish the bathroom this time!

Gabby, here is the link to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) Walk page. https://secure3.convio.net/jdrf3/site/SPageSe... Just input the state you want and you'll get the dates/places for the individual walks. Tampa is on 4/5 and St Pete is on 4/12. I think Orlando and Lakeland are this weekend on 3/8. I'm going to recruit some friends and try to make it to one of the April ones.

Gardening and lawn upgrades. I'm looking to put some local flora back into the landscape. NOVA is terrible when it comes to modern housing developments. They clear all the locally occurring landscape, right down to the bare ground, then pop up all these look alike houses with non native plants. Fortunately, we live in an older division, and can at least keep out area looking like nature intended it. Still, there's lots to do to keep it from going completely wild! :D And we're going to Disney next month, that will include lots of walking.

I used to have 4 cats, now I have 3 (lost a 16 year old) a 3 year old Sheltie and now 4 hens, my last endeavor. They are a hoot! I didn't know how much fun they were and how much personality they have. But they are messy but their eggs are super good. It is all part of a sustainable life, in case there is a time when we have no food. and their antics are hilarious. I probably spend as much time with my animals as I do with the outside world.

We had chickens and I loved them. The dogs were a problem with them though. So we are going to try ducks this year and see if that works better. I have a zoo too, and I love it.

Whoa, do I have ambitious plans. Have to clean the pool deck, plant a lemon tree, get rid of an overgrown rubber tree plant. Also have to work on my butterfly garden. We have Zebra Longwings and Monarchs hanging around, so I have to get some nectar plants going for them. There is a trail at the end of our street built on an old railroad bed which I plan to start walking on. By mid April, I'll start to hole up in the AC. Too humid for much else unless I can roll my body of bed earlier.

I am looking at the remnants of our last snow/sleet storm from Monday. The temp is a brisk 32 after a mere 21 yesterday.

I am looking forward to Spring, I don't have Cabin Fever because I have been active all Winter. Last Sunday we went to a Nursery just to see green things. My sister is planning the garden planting and I am looking for new flowers for the yard.

The Farmers Market and Craft Bazaar opens April 6 and I will be freezing to death in the early morning hours but it will be fun. Over the Winter I learned how to make Cold Porcelain Clay for jewelry making and I have been making jewelry with it. We are gearing up for that opening.

We are looking at Craft Fairs for the Summer. The fun thing about my city is that we have all kinds of Ethnic Festivals throughout Spring, Summer and early fall. We have a big Arts Festival all of which are free.

I have been busy planning events for the Police Community Relations Council so we can all have some fun and my community is planning a big Jazz Festival. I can't wait to take off all these Winter clothing. I am ready to trade my boots and heavy shoes for flip flops and sandals and sweaters for t-shirts.

Thank you for the nice welcome. I'm not sure where Newton, County is, but it sounds nice I am a new resident of Baxter County. We receintly retired and moved to the great Natural State. I am also watching my diet and my blood glucose is doing pretty good. My MD always says my lab is great. I have to remind him that it is only because of my diet and Metrormin. My cholesterol is also a lot better but he won't cut my dosage yet. I hope you can keep your sugars controlled with diet, it's no fun taking pills and Metformin smells so bad. There is supposed to be a new Metformin that smells better but we don't have it available here.

I never noticed a smell from my Metformin, or are you referring to some sort of body odor?

Gracie40 2014-03-05 11:31:49 -0600 Report

Prior to the change, Metformin had a very chemical sour smell. Not sure what to compare it to. But Have to give the drug company who makes it credit for changing the odor to make it more palatable. Good Thinking!

Gardening but that is still a few months away, here in the Pacific Northwest most of the summer vegetables are not planted until later in the year so the growing season is very short. I was in hopes you would ask. It means you take your art supplies and a portable easel to the place that you want a painting of and paint it right there in the great outdoors. If it isn't practical I just take a photo and paint it from that, but being right there while you are painting gives you a different perspective you can see so much more than a camera can. Plus the atmosphere is so much nicer than a stuffy studio.

I am happy for those of you who can enjoy the spring and summer, but I live in Southern California Desert area. The winters here are to die for, they are so nice I love them and hate when summer comes around. The reason is that it really gets up to 117 to 120 degrees!! What can you really do outside with that kind of temperature. So my plans will be maybe to stay in with the AC lol or once in a while go sit in a pool. Even then the water is so hot you do not enjoy it…lol

Same here! I live in Las Vegas, which is in the Mojave desert. and that is pretty much how we live in the summer too. Currently the night time lows are forecast to be in the mid 40s to low 50s and the highs are in the mid to upper 70s.

If I want to play in the snow (infrequently) I can get up to Mt Charleston and when done, come home on dry roads.

But I love the warmer temps. When the temp drops below 70f I start shivering!.

Fortunately for me most ot the "fun" in LV isn't appealing to me. I don't like to gamble. The only gambling I ever did was to drive on LV city streets and freeways. If my car got through the day with no damage I was a winner! LoL!
