I am going to try to get back to where I was just over 6 years ago before I ended up on Insulin. With the cost of Meds. going higher I need to change the way I have been looking at this Disease. And go back to the way I was before Surgery in May of 2002 Befoe then I was controling everything with Diet and exercise. I am going to try to go back and see if I can gain some of what I lost since then including my self esteme and pride back. I am over a hundred pounds overweight. I need to get rid of the waste and byproducts out of my system and the only way to do that is change my life now and forever. Wish Me Luck in the years ahead.

I was heavy at one time, but then I got a severe case of the flu. In a weeks time, I went from a size 10/12 to a 00.

Now, I am at a healthy weight, and I am still thin, but because I am what you would call 'skinny', that doesn't mean I feel terrible, or have bad numbers, it doesn't matter what your weight is to have bad numbers.

Sorry if I've offended anyone.

No it is not offensive but what I was saying is that being overweight right now is I need to get my numbers better and not so much about weight. But if I concentrated on only loosing weight and not my blood sugars, I would feel terrible because they would be high. I hope now it makes more sense. Sorry if I offended anyone.

This discussion is right on with me today. I went to the doctor last week and we discussed two options( jokingly, but true). As an overweight diabetic you have to decide. Do you want to be "fat" with great numbers and slow down complications, or do you want to be "skinny" and have bad numbers and feel horrible with complications. We all have to make a choice. I choose to be "fat" and try to loose weight and watch my numbers, and slow down complications.

Ok that makes the first goal to be close to 13 pounds. I will post my morning weight tomorrow and then go from there. If I can lose 10 pounds every two months I will be glad. Keep your fingers crossed and keep me in your prayers. I will give it 100% and go from there.

I totally understand Edie. I see how my mom has gained weight because of her diabetes meds. I have to say, that I will be very strong with my doctor about that. I don't want to loose the progress I have made. Be careful, but you know you can do it. Talk to Toma, he will help you out. Visit his site and check it out. I am here to help. If you need a month of veggies or a month of something to get on track, let me know and we will do it together. I'm game!!

OK, I am also overweight due to insulin, Mainly Lantus. But my doctor told me to do these goals. Take your weight and do 5 percent of that( Like if you weigh 250 5% is 12.5 lbs) so try and loose that in a 2 month period. then start again. Every 2 months try and loose 5 percent of your weight. I have been doing that and since October I have lost about 20 lbs. Not always the 5 percent but it is a goal. I am upping my exercise and watching real careful my portion size. Hope that helps.

I'm using "Everday Health" and it really helps me keep an eye on what I'm eating calorie-wise. It's free:

You can set a weight goal and it tells you how many calories per day you should eat to obtain your goal. You can look up nutritional information on foods, etc. It also helps me determine the carbs I'm consuming in different foods.

Very useful.

Way to go! I know it sounds impossible, but anything is possible if you want it bad enough. I will keep you in my prayers. Please let me know how you are doing! Take care and good luck! Angie

Best of luck to you with your goals. However, everyone should keep in mind that Diabetes is a progressive disease and can take a turn for the worse even with our best efforts so don't despair if you can't get back to the point of Diet and Exercise control. If you do everything you can, losing weight, exercising everyday and you still need drugs or insulin it's not your fault. You are not a failure, you can say that you are doing the best that you possibly can. But good luck in your quest.

Edie, You know I am there for you. You go girl!!! I myself need to lose a good 30# maybe we can work something over the computer. And the discussion of Life without Insulin. I can't help you there. I have been on insulin since I was 6 years old. My life was with insulin included. I wish I get a panceas and see what it would be like without insulin though. I don't think I would know how to act. I would probably give myself a shot accidentally and end up killing myself.(LOL) I so use to taking insulin It is just part of my life now…Debe

God bless you, Edie. That's a wonderful goal. Not easy, so it will not happen overnight, as I'm sure you already know. Just work hard at it, but don't beat up on yourself when you have a bad day, etc. Keep thinking how much better you'll feel, and look, and keep picturing that great feeling of accomplishment you'll have - even as you achieve the smaller goals along the way. I too would like to get back to the point of using diet and exercise only. I hate taking the dadburned meds, and I sure as heck hate paying for them! I'm adding you to my prayer list! Keep me posted, even if by sending me a personal message. Hugs.
