I have heard the name Double Diabetes, but I never gave it much thought. As a matter of fact, I kind of wrote it off as a misnomer. Well, it turns out to be a very real complication that can affect those with Type 1 diabetes. Quite frankly, I was not familiar with the details of double diabetes. It's definitely a good idea to be familiar, especially if you are a type 1. It's serious, and apparently can be prevented.
I recently came across this informative link that describes this condition .

I had never heard of it called Double Diabetes but insulin resistant type 1. That is a double whammy that would be hard to deal with.

The name does make it sound more devastating! On the other hand, by narrowing it down, categorizing it, and becoming more aware, we can intervene, and treat it more effectively.

I get really bad insulin resistance when I am pregnant, so I sort of understand what this is all about. It is definitely not fun! I didn't know that it was associated with weight gain in type 1. It is good to be aware of any complication that can occur in the present or long term so that you know what to look for.

I'm amazed, and saddened by how complex diabetes can be. Fortunately, by staying informed, we can become aware enough to seek treatment or correct many of the complexities and changes that diabetes can cause.
