Remember how Dr. Frederick Banting had to beg and plead for a chance to help diabetics? Nothing has changed. In fact, the Canadian government is attacking scientists and cutting basic research. Here, we spend billions on the bandaid (insulin) and 0.1% on a cure.
I know how to build a medical scanner to probe the insulin structure. 12 years of research, and now I'm worn down to nothing. Today (Feb 21, 2014) I moved into a mobile covered wagon, decorated on the outside to look like a giant DNA molecule. Sure is cold. Today it snowed and I got wet. I had to fix the wheels. Tomorrow I start walking the streets, hauling my home behind. I hope I don't get arrested. I plan to walk from Port Moody to another city, Port Coquitlam, Then on to the City of Coquitlam, Burnaby and downtown Vancouver where I plan to give it to a homeless human. Who knows where I'll go. I'm down to $160.
What a stupid society we live in. I have a plan to do something about it (search Canapedia on Fundrazr.com), I wonder if anyone cares about a medical scanner to get to the root cause of disease? Dave Teertstra PhD MSc BSc

A few rich investors are doing quite well with the way things are. Billions of dollars go to the bandaid (insulin) and not the cure, because the bandaid is profitable. A cure would ruin everything. In general, these few insist on unlimited exponential growth, even though your income and the productivity of nature is flat-lined and linear through time. In general, big companies aim to profit from every aspect of your life, especially the basics of food, shelter, communication and transportation. The American Constitution does not protect individuals in important ways. You have no food rights, economic rights, privacy rights, environmental rights, even though the economy is based on the environment and on the work of individual citizens. In this context, only the sick want a cure.

Yes, what a stupid society we live in.
This is one of the bad things that socialized medicene does; puts limitations down.
If you want to come to the USA for better results you better come quick . . . because we are headed in the same direction as you are.
No . . . I don't understand it either

Wondering if Canada is crushing diabetes research, why do you not immigrate to the USA?

I doubt they would allow a covered wagon across the border. Also, the fees to deal with immigration are far beyond my means. At present, I am heading out into snow with a bit of food, a bit of money and no place to go back to. Shocking but true. After two years of fighting to stand still, fighting to find a way to build a medical scanner, my only option is to take it to the streets.
