How bad is it to walk close to 5 miles or more a day because I have been doing it for 4 years now during the summer and I want to know how bad it is to walk that much with type one diabetes

I don't see it as a bad thing. Specially since you have been already doing it for so many years and you have been a diabetic for that time, correct?

The cautions I would keep in mind would be keeping a charged cell phone with you, glucose tablets in case you feel low, water to drink, specially in the summer and have some kind of ID on you that if something happens, strangers will know you are a diabetic.

Other than that, unless your doctors says not to, walk on my friend. That is great that you walk that far daily.

Excercise helps a person with diabetes (PWD) to use glucose without the need for extra insulin delivery. The only downside might be that one could get low during the duration of the exercise, so perhaps it would be wise to carry glucose tabs or other ways to correct a low. And also be sure to stay well hydrated.

I agree with jigsaw. It is one of the most positive things any person with or without diabetes can do!

Who ever said it was bad? I think it's great! My guess is it will add years to ones life, diabetic or not.
