When I first started on a pump I used a disetronic. I then switched to an Animas. Disetronic sends 2 pumps when you get one so you always have a backup. The pumps are still in good working order but I no longer need them. I dont know what to do with them. I dont want to throw them away. I could send them back to the company but…why? I wish I could find someone who wants one but doesnt have insurance.

I guess my question is, does anyone know of a place where you could donate one?

There are several organizations that take pump donations. You can get a tax reciept for the donation. Just Google "donate insulin pump". You should see several of the organizations.

Most cities and towns have free medical clinics for those in need. They don't usually advertise, but if you called a homeless shelter, they could tell you where the clinic is located. These clinics accept donations of medical supplies of all kinds that people no longer use. They in turn give them to those who come to the clinic.

I don't know much about getting rid of a pump. But when I was on home IV for a 2 year period, I had so much equipment left and alot of people wouldn't take them. I had a freezer full of IV's. Well believe it or not the Vetranarian in our hometown took them an really appricated them. I wuld of never thought to give them to a vet. But I have no clue if they could use pumps. If you can't find nowhere give it a try before you just throw it out…Debe

Thank you, those were both very good suggestions. I will make some calls Monday morning. A pump is too expensive a piece of equipment to just throw away so I really need to find a place to donate it to. I would love to sell it on Ebay but they dont allow that, lol. But to be honest I would feel better if I knew that it went to someone who wants one but doesnt have the financial means or the insurance to cover it.
