I can only speak from my experience. When we moved to Florida in 2005, I let my PCP handle my diabetes although I never felt really comfortable with some of the things he did. In 2010, I started experiencing some serious low BG's and after one landed me in the hospital while on vacation in Idaho, and I visited my PCP upon my return; he told me to keep on the same doses of Lantus and Novolog. (!????!) That's when I realized I needed to see an endo and made an appointment, then I requested, in writing that my PCP give me a referral. (Malpractice is always a very valid concern among doctors…it's the reason to put these concerns/requests in writing) The endo actually reduced my Lantus dose by about 20% and changed it from evening to morning which helped some. She also re-educated me on carb ratios and sliding scales for the Novolog. Nine months later, I opted for pumping. I'm convinced that had I not gone to an endo, I might not be here now. Trust your gut…you are your own best advocate.

For T1, T2 , or T1.5
Why would you think that it is better NOT to have an endo with diabetes ?

Howdy Vi

Are you having difficulties with keeping your Blood Glucose stable?

Generally speaking Endos are more for T1s, but T2s with complicated cases may sometimes have use for their services.

You still have to get past your PCP for that wouldn't you?
