Everyone likes to make a New Years' Resolution, but often they fell defeated when they can not reach their goal. Set your limits lower; That way you don't have such high expectations that will only put more pressure and depression if you don't succeed. My New Years Resolution this year is a good one, and easy to accomplished. I have vowed to myself to be more aware of the people around me, and to really listen to what they have to say. It is not simple mind you; especially when the talk may be repeated many times or they are issues that upset you, but it will make you feel better if you actually hear what people have to say, not just nod and agree, but reply in a meaningful-thought-throug way, if they wish your advice. I don't make resolutions anymore. I take it one day at a time. This works better for me. The only planning ahead I do is when I go grocery shopping. I do have to plan what to buy and not to buy, watching what I eat.

That is also a good protective solution for not setting yourself up for a fall. thanks mary

I do come up with an occasional good idea, which is nice, considering I sometimes have trouble with my remembering things. LOL It's also nice to know that I have said something that is helpful to someone else.

My goals this year is to lose 50lbs by the end of the year. To excersie everyday even if its only a good 30 min walk. With winter here I've not been going on my walks. To make good food choices and to learn all I can to take better care of my diabeties to help me take better care of my family.

They are all good and obtainable, but remember not to be too hard on yourself, If you come close and you try to stick fairly well to a daily regimen, it is a win-win situation no matter what the outcome.

For those of you that live in the north with bad winters, they have walking videos that take you on a journey while you are walking in your house watching the scenery. Plus they also have walking routine videos.

I agree with annynomous. Walking tapes are excellent. A good friend of ours is from our hometown and graduated with my brother. Leslie Sansone. If none of you heard of her, she does a walking tape to do in your own livingroom, den or study. She is pretty good and has an excellent personallty. Her sister is my dietitian at our local hospital. I have all her tapes. The have started with with me personally to get myself moving again. I wish I could do this tape, but as of now I need something to hold on to as I walk. Oh by the way I did 1002 steps today. Don't laugh thats a huge amount for me. A year ago at this time I wasn't able to walk without help and a walker. Woo Hoo. My goal is to hit 1500 in the next 2 weeks. Thats far away from the 10,000 steps daily, but more than I did last year. Wish me luck!!!…Debe

Lisa they sale them at walmarts and K-marts. If you can't seem to find them I will give you her address at her studio here in PA. I know they also sell them on QVC. She also has a few good books out, and some exercise stuff too. She is very down to earth…Debe

If you can not get out, Walmart.com is an excellent place for online shopping, also amazon and ebay, all have excellent specials and free shipping available

I never heard of walking video's .. thanks I live in Wisconsin and we've had 46+ inches of snow already just in December!!! I'll check them out because although I go to the Y regularly, when it snows that much I can't even get there. It's pouring freezing rain right now.. oh joy!!

Thank you for the idea

I know I have seen one of her books on sale at Walmarts for around $6.00. But I'm pretty sure she has a website. If not let me know, I get you in contact with her…Debe

My new years resolutions are the same I make every day. to make smart food choices, get in my exercise and drink enough fluids. That way I do not fail or fall short on my resolutions.

This is so true. I didn't really set any resolutions this year because I tend to break them too. I did set a goal to learn something new each day about diabetes and hopefully help others through the knowledge I gain. To great health, Angie
