I have Asthma/food allergies, I know have UC Ulcerative Colitis (Colon) and my GI reminds me when I'm freaking out about the numbers jumping around from my labs because I'm trying to understand, wrap my head around everything, to take a cleansing breath, stop worrying about the numbers and look at the BIG picture, back up! Let him do his job to help figure things out. Now I also have Endocronologist for low TSH and Metabolic Syndrome-X (prediabetes) who has me on Metformin. The first three months had many gut issues but one does with UC. We realized at a follow up and some reading I did about that to learn I was not on the long acting formula which he intended for me. Who know where down the line that happened but it has been better with exception of new back pains I'm afraid is kidney issue from Metformin? So I keep my appointments #1. Ask questions, take notes, journal changes, and keep finding ways that work for me to erase my bad habits like walking the perimeters and freezer isles, passing by the bakery ;-). Use rice cooker, slow cooker, one soup pot and one sauté pan. One ingredient foods! KISS "keep it simple sweetie", Mary Kay Ash used to remind us. Oh, also have ADHD HA!! Might be connection to food allergies…
Keep you chin up, eyes forward, you can do it!

Since I am on dialysis I had been watching my kidney nunbers for several years. Finally at the beginning of 2013 I got bad enough to need dialysis. I had during that time discovered several resources to aid me in deciphering my kidney numbers. One of those resources I found was the resource here ~ http://www.kidney.org/atoz/pdf/diabetes.pdf. As far as your GFR tells me you are at the bottom end of stage 2 chronic Kidney disease almost to drop into stage 3. Dialysis starts at stage 5 or late in stage 4) You can see the GFR levels of the stages on p 2 of the PDF booklet. In the remainder of that booklet there are practical tips on the best ways to cope with the twin diagnoses of diabetes and chronic kidney disease. If you want to delay going on dialysis, you may wish to eat a meal plan which does not stress your kidneys. You may wish to avoid foods/drinks with a lot of potassium, phosphorus and sodium. Should you desire lists of these, just ask and I can provide them for you.

For the rest of the lab values you might wish to look at the site here ~ http://lifeoptions.org/kidneyinfo/labvalues.php.

Praying God's best for you and yours

I wrote a letter to my husbands firmer kidney doc, she knows me, i asked her a big favor.. Gave her as much of my history and info as I could..and asked what she thinks..should I be seen by her or not? Told her Id come in officially if she thought I should..told her why I wasnt asking my doc(pcp) first. So please pray she answers and helps me.

the nationational kidney foudation has info that contradics itsself.. that chart you gave me says i have ckd.

than heres this quote came from their page too.." GFR is calculated using the serum creatinine and other factors such as age and gender. In the early stages of kidney disease GFR may be normal. A value of 60 or higher is normal (GFR decreases with age). " its confusing.. the word I just saw is MAY BE and Im betting thats where my doc is standing.. I honestly, am lost here.. need a second opinion, another doc, I have to start with her.. but I dont expect to get anywhere…just because of ..well she has told me in the past that I worry too much about the diabetes…

I have discided to contact my husbands former kidney doc and ask a big favor ..her opinion..I know shes a good doc..I will give her as much info as I can and see if she can give me any help.with this, advice, whatever…I need a lot of pull to talk to dr b about this, as you can tell Im very uneasy about talking to her about this…but if dr kaw will help me.. maybe…

very tired right now..just walked a bunch, didnt eat enough before, just wasnt hungry, know blood sugar was going down…wondering how to go about getting a second opionion from another doc.. to see a specialist..I need dr b's permission..and she wont give it at least not for an endo. shes never said a thing about ckd either so even if its on her radar, she hasnt dignosed it… just hard to say I want a second opinion on this.. assuming she thinks Im over reacating(she has said that about my diabetis and Im really starting to doubt her there. I was cking out other family practice docs today. for second opionions.. to find out what theyd do with me.if they d take this more seriously or not..do I have to tell he I want one to get insurance yto pay for it?anyy body know?

one more question, as i read it talks about "Plus" and "minus" and also other factors they considerWhich Im beting is why she isnt con =cerned about my #'s , noit sure I agree with her at this point but Im betting thats what shes thinking…going to talk to her about it ..see what shes thinking , then decide what I want to do. really trying to move.. would make changing docs mut..will have to than..

thing Im most upset about is she didnt tell me! and bet she denies it now..she denied my diabetis for about 3 yrs when everybody else knew I had it.. even some of my othjer docs.

its just so hard to fire docs..ive been wuthg this lsady for ten+ years…sorry I bond with my docs.. dan as I might have said wanted me to fire her years sago. we uesed to fight about it..need to move.. need to anyway ..please pray I can soon.

All I know from both experience and reading, you have CKD are about half way to needing dialysis. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but if you are aware of the possibliity you may make changes to your meal plans to take a load off your kidneys and hopefully conserve kidney function for a longer time and postpone dialysis. I believe I postponed dialysis for a minimum of 1 yr due to my change of menu.

what Im telling my doc

"Want to talk about my new labs…A bit concerned about my kidney function #'s
was researching.. realised my gfr #'s look a lot like I have kidney desease and may have had it a while.. dont know if that is true.. know it takes more than the internet to dianose.. and I have a lot more wrong with mre that could explain, many of my symptoms,(fatgue, shortness of breath. Etc..) but I admit those gfr number do concern me."

see what she says and go from there…

Ive been thinkinbg.. not in any way saying your wrong-not at all , just somethings you dont know..wondering if this changes anything in your mind..

Im on many many prrecriptoon meds, they think my vomiting is caused by my metformin, they always ask me about shortness of breath-but Ive had that for years and years..I do have the swelling.. have had that for a few yrs, I am tired, and not alot of concintration but there are other good reasons for all these things truley, just being through. ..obviously my numbrers agree with you.. I understand that.. not denythat just covering bases. Im also very overweight, 327 lbs…just wondered your thoughts…with the new info? any changes or no? got to go work on my lisyt for talking to my doc about this..and what to do if she disagrees.

I m not upset with you for telling me this..I thankyou…Im hesitating..mostly because .. well I …we dont know each other personally.. Im always a little wary to take medical advice online.. but I also trust patients, sooner than I trust docs..not that I dont trust docs.. just think patients ..in many ways know more..they are where the rubber meets the road. depends but..

as I said U do thankyou. for telling me this..truly..so now I can deal with it. I just dont know why shre didnt.

Out of curiosity, are you taking Metformin? The reason I asked, I was on Metformin a while back in time. I had major problems that were not typical or common. Quite a few doctors said it wasn't a reaction to the Metformin. I was really suffering until I discontinued the Metformin. That was over a year ago, and I've been fine ever since. So I thought I would just mention this as a heads up, just in case your on Metformin.
I hope everything turns out for the best with your tests.

I forgot to mention that it was digestive, and stomach problems. I had seen a gastroenterologist, endocrinologist, and a primary care physician. All of them said they didn't think Metformin was the cause. Bottom line, without the met, I'm fine!

Yes I am sorry to hear that as well. i went through that colonscopy and endoscopy back in 2006, The proceedure was a snap because I was put into a "twilight sleep" and it was over soon. What I found difficult was the preparation for the colonoscopy. That was the pits! I pray you will sail through it easily.
