I found out a few days ago the the really minor dn I had in my feet thayt mind you did scare me..is actually probablly in both leggs from my knees down. it has been mis diagnosed by my family doc..and now we think it might be this..Im scared. I know this is serious.. my sugar hasnt ever been that bad… up and down some but ..my family doc hasnt been very worried even times when i have been,..she always says I over react on this.. my husband(who died in the last yr) always wanted me to fire her. He didnt feel she took my diabetis seriously ly enough.. Im starting to agree..it took her yrs longer to diagnos it..when everybody else said i had it.. she wouldnt..finally 3-5 yrs later she finally agreed not sure why.. all other ways she is a great doic.. on topof things..this area..she seems to have a blind spot…I am scared.

just realised that my pain is higher than my knees.. but i have to remember that I also have fibromyalgia, that could be some of it.

I guess your Doctor wanted to wait before she identify you as a diabetes. Once you are identified as a Diabetes you are on everyone list, to include Insurance Co. and all Health Agencies . That's just my opinion .

what do you mean? Im on medicare/medicaid and the only way OI could be treated is if she diagnosed me.. as she didnt..I believe i may be in worse shape.. but dont know.. I dont think a diagnosis wounld hurt me with that insurance-it could only help…I thinkI understand where your coming from but I dont think it works here.. but I see what you thinking I believe..

Ive been on disability for 15-20 yrs for other reasons.. does all that info help explain , why Im not happy about it? : )

I have noticed that when my blood sugar is low or too low(which for some reason has been happeni8ng alot last 2 weeks , before that it was running high… but during t his .ive notied that whenot s hign my legs hurt more, whenits low.. thry hurt less ..does that make sense?

Im also trying to move from Michigan to Arizona to improve my health..pa=in lkevels, be able to excersize.. not be a vertual shut in as I am know..

when you say when your Blood Glucose (BG) is running high your legs hurt more and when BG is low they hurt less. It makes perfect sense since the neuropathy is sensitive to BG levels, especially at first. My neuropathy is so well established that no matter where my BG levels are at mine just plain hurts.

For you I would guess that is a great motivation to keep your BG levels low

BTW Where in AZ do you plan to go?

I can understand your cause for concern. Don't take a chance on your life. If a doctor cannot perform their duties as they should, then no matter how good they are in one area, does not mean it is okay to slack-off in another area. Maybe you should consider switching to another doctor. The choice is yours.

As far as being diagnosed with Diabetic Neuropathy, maybe that was more easily diagnosed at that time because your blood sugar was reading normal at the time of this diagnosis. However, if the doctor diagnosed you with Neuropathy, then that should have sent off alarms to test you further right then for Diabetes.

Ive asked her to send me to a specialist.. she said (ages ago for the diabetis..I think her feeling was I dont eat right, probably dont. so the specialist wound wantto deal with me.. that was the feeling I got- she wounldnt send me I asked twice. I eat worse now..no money to eat better. seriously

jayabee52 2014-01-22 17:08:14 -0600 Report

the fact that you don't eat right does not mean that you cannot see an Endo. My late wife didn't eat "right" and her Endo worked with her. The more I hear about your GP the less I like her.

And I take exception to your statement "..no money to eat better" as quite frankly the cheapest way to eat, making your own from scratch, is the best way for those with diabetes. Commonly we pay a premium for pre-fab conveince in the grocery store.

you can take exception.. , and I dont want to fight..that isnt my point here…but there is more going on than you know there.. that makes cooking difficult.. try to understand.. ok.. its just hard for me.. I also deal with other physical problems..that make cook from "scratch difficult, not everybody is good ayt that..Im not.. my main point actually was I find it hard to buy vegs.. which i know would help..

one bit of good news is Im about to be forced to leave dr b(family doc). Im working to move to Arizona from Michigan. so will need a new doc. Dr b thinks i over react about my diabetes..which is werid cause she doesnt feel that way about any of my many other health problems, she takes me at my word for those but not the diabetes. werid…yea my husband ,who died a short while ago…wanted me to drop her.. Im thinking hard now.. I have a quetion, which may not be allowed..if not just say you cant answer, please be gentle..Im wondering what you all would expect a doc to say if you walked into her office with this problem?. by the way I have alot of medical problems and am on 25 prescription meds…which complicates things.

Sorry to learn of your husband's passing. My 2nd wife, "Jem" passed in July 2010 and so I know how I felt to lose a beloved spouse..

I wasn't trying to pick a fight nor make you feel bad. I really don't LIKE to cook either, but I have found that it is better for me, so I do it. Convenience foods are often high in carbs or other bad things as well as being more expensive. Plus I manage my Blood Glucose levels without diabetes meds simply by what I eat and what I avoid eating.

RE your question, (not sure what your question is but my guess would be what would a Dr do if presented with someone with diabetic neuropathy? Am I close to acccurate?) I have burning diabetes related neuropathy and have been under a Dr's care for it. I was first started on a medication (neurontin/gabepentin) and after some months I didn't receive relief from that I was Rx'd an antidepressant (can't remember the name now) Then I gave up on Rx medication and researched some suppliments like Alpha Lipolic Acid, and other OTC suppliments. So far nothing has seemed to work for me.

thankyou ..I really am not up to much serious cooking..cant.. just cant-if I had to Id probably stop eating or eat worse junk. but you did get my question about the dr right.. Ive been on neuotiun for painin the past, my fibro. and im oin anti depressants for depression and othe mental illness… cant afford otc meds…what kind of doc is treating it? wondered if shed finally have to send me to a endo.. although the waiting list for them around here is months.. and Im hoping to move out of state soon.

vrswesley 2014-01-22 09:05:20 -0600 Report

I didnt have the neuropathy then to be fair.. Im trying to move to a warmer climate..mostly because of this..I cant get out and excersize here for major sections of the year because of bad weather.. trying to move to Arizona.. if youd like more info on this contact me personally.. (not sure what the rules are here about.. some of this.)

my caridologiust accually did a test for it..my familydoc couod have ordered the same test months ago..dont know why she didnt…I see her in 3 weeks.. see what she says than I did tell her what dr grimm, heart doc said. (yea, great name huh!? : ).
