I've got a horrific stomach bug and it's just started. My kids have both had it and they threw up for close to 12 hours. I've never had a sickness with type 1… What should I anticipate as far as my BG? I can't keep anything down. I'm in hour #2…

Well the bug has hit me too. My grand daughter and son in law had it. I had the same bug at Easter. It hits hard with chills, sweats, severe headache and problems at both ends. Just like at Easter it hit some family members and not others. How can that be?? Just lucky I guess.

After not sleeping all night and checking my BG 17 times in 7 hours, I finally got through the worst. I never had a Bg reading above 68, but sipping real Gatorade and snacking on honey but Cheerios helped keep me from bottoming out. Also, my diabetic nutritionist at the hospital was amazing texting me all night.
My advice for anyone in a similar situation- test test and then test.

I know the prospect of drinking anything is most likely not appealing, but keeping up your liquids will help. Keep something sugary near by and have your husband check your levels for you if you need. If you are not eating, even the efforts your body makes to give you some glucose may not be enough and you will want to watch out for lows.

Usually when we're sick, our levels go up, but this can be different with this 12 hour bug. I had something similar but I am type 2. My levels were up, but I worked hard to keep some kind of fluid going in to replace what was coming out.

I hope you are felling better soon

Im sorry to hear. That's no fun. Check bs quite often. Have some diet n regular 7up on hand. I hear it doesn't taste too bad if it's gonna come up. Clear liquids like broth. May want to let the soda flatten a bit, might be better. Most important is test test test. U may go high. I haven't been sick yet w being diabetic but been w my hubby when he has been. If running high might want to test for ketones. Try some saltines for some carbs. Good luck and feel better sooner than soon :-)
