I was at my primarycare doctor the other day for my regular check up. He has set me up with a new endo doctor who I go see tomorrow. He told me that She may start me on a blood preasure medication even though I have no BP problems. He said she may start me on one because endos do that with thier diabetic patients to help prtect thier kidney functions. Has anyone ever heard of his or has anyone elses doctor put the on a BPmed for this. hae been diabetic for 33 years and have neverheard of his and it concerns me since Ihae no BP problems.

I have only been type 2 for a little over a year no other health problems but the diabetes has put me in hospital four times once for a month they put me on Bo mess to protect the kidneys and cholesterol mess to protect the arteries and blood vessels I asked everyone of my nine doctors they say that is very common even though you have no issues of high bp or cholesterol so I talked to my insurance company nurse hotline they said it was normal too now my bp usually runs 100/60 and I was worried the mess would drop me to low but they haven't

My husband was on bp meds for kidney function only and not for bp. Very low dosage. He's off it now

If you have a risk of CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease), some drugs typically get prescribed to slow or prevent kidney damage even though they are primarily used to treat blood pressure. I forget what “class” of drugs they are, but it’s not uncommon with diabetics because of our increased risk.
At one point I was on 2 BP meds – one for the heart and one for the kidneys. Be firm in asking if it’s really necessary if you don’t want or need it. But I’m also sure that anyone with CKD will say, don’t take the risk either.

Thanks Nick but I do not have nor have I ever had CKD. I have never had any problems due tohe diabetes even after 33 years.

Well, then I'd certainly question the necessity. I have hereditary risks, so it's a small maintenance dose for me.

thanks Nick Iwill do that. I am the only person in my family besides my great grandmother that has ever had diabetes she died at the age of 94. No one in my family has a history of kidney problems.

Hypertension and diabetes are the two most causes for renal failure. But it would be unsafe to put you on Bp meds if you're not hypertensive. If you get too low, you might faint or get dangerously low To the point where you're not adequately perfusing your body.

thank you that is what I am worried about, esecially after being in a medically induced comma last year and the migraines, I have not ever had hypertension. It just freaks me ou thinking about it.

My endo did not put me on any BP medications even with my cholesterol level. Medication for the cholesterol and diet took care of my cholesterol and now I am off that.

The best thing to do with medical situations is ASK the doctor why you need the medication.

I do not hve any problems with BP or cholesterol. I do not to be on something that I do not need and if my BP drops from being put on BP med I don't need, Then it is going to make my migraines flair up which I do not want. I just got over chronic migraines every day for 5 months after being put on new meds and they are working I do not want those back and I guarentee that if my BP goes to low then I will get them and it won't be pretty and I will be back where I started.

I understand. I will not take any medications I don't need either. I will tell my doctor that after I ask why he wants me to have it.

I have read your post. However, I am not able to comment on this due to the lack of specific knowledge.

I'm sure someone else will soon come along.
