I wanted to know what everyone has planned for tonight? I'm going to my parents to celebrate 55 YEARS OF MARRIAGE, YEAH! What is everybody else doing?

My New Years Eve was a dreadful day. I had a bad time coping it was a start of a new year and felt I haven't accomplished much that year. I thought I would be running by now, only to see I can walk so far with my cane and assistant. I have expectations way beyond my dreams and set myself time to failure. I was in bed at 5PM and cried myself to sleep. I did not see the ball drop either. It was another night to me. I woke up the next AM to realize it was another year and was sadden I didn't make my goals last year. That is so hard to comprehen for myself since I was an active person all my life…Debe

I feel for you so much. I think most of us feel we fail and fall short of our expectations at times, not that it makes you feel any better, I'm sure. We're so tough on ourselves, aren't we? When you're accustomed to being very active and useful, it has to be particularly rough to find yourself less than able to continue in that way. I think sometime how so many of us are always wishing we had more time to just sit and "chill" - do nothing. That's fine when it's what you chose to do, but not so fine when it's forced on you and you feel you have no control over it. Finding an interestn and/or hobby that doesn't require so much of you physically is a help. At least keep your mind active and provide a little diversion and enjoyment. If it could be something that benefits others, even better. You're still useful and contributing and making the world a better place. Hugs! Have a better day.

It sounds to me that you tried your best to meet your goals and weren't able to do it. We have been taught since being little kids that if you don't win you're a looser, or at least not as good as the person who did win. If you have ever witnessed a Special Olympics race, you know that being in the race is just as important as winning the race. Debe, you ran, you gave it your best, and you finished. I think that says volumes about you and your spirit.

last night our neighbors got totally toasted! it sounded like they blew up the neighborhood! best fire works i've seen in a long time! they were yelling and screaming and blowing those party favors! they had the loud bass music and everything! then to top it off a bunch of them came out front and rolled a garbage can on wheels up and down the street! who needs a t.v. with all that much entertainment going on?

It sounds like everybody had a quiet New Year's Eve. Sorry about the trauma a few of you had! I hope all of you have a wonderful 2009 with great health. Take care, Angie

Staying home playing on the computer and watch the ball drop in New York on tv and go to bed if i last that long lol

2008-12-31 16:42:08 -0600 Report

I'm staying home, never did like going out on New Years. I call it 'rookie night'… lol all the people that don't drink the rest of the year are out in force and I'd just rather stay home. I will make a phone call my new 'friend' later tonight so we can ring in the new year together over the phone even though we can't be together this year. :( Oh well, there's always next year for that.
I'll watch the New Year come in on tv an hour early in NY lol

Me and my daughter's cat & dog will be whoopin' it up here at my place. I was invited to go out, but just have never cared to go out and party on New Year's Eve. As I get older - I mean, more mature - I like all that hullaboo less and less. Guess I'm just what I used to call an "old fogey".

In my book you're some kind of a party animal.

Yeah, right. (LOL) Don't tell me you're more boring than I've become?!
Actually, I prefer to home where it's (somewhat) safe and sound. Atlanta traffic is always a trip, but tonight all the maniacs will be out!

Nothing wrong with being and "old fogey" Lady. I watched Andy Griffith at 10pm and fell asleep before Everybody Loves Raymond came on at 11pm! :) It's okay, the next day still came and I started my New Year's Day then. lol

Thanks! You make me feel better. Actually I've talked to a lot of folks who spent their New Year's Eve in pretty much the same way. And you're right! My New Year was there the next day just like everyone else's!

We are going to dinner(Mexican) and then home to watch on TV and have champagne at midnight. We will have a few low carb snacks. Humuus and veggie sticks, and some Triscuits with cheese.

Everything was fine, dinner was good, saw the ball drop in NYC, then went to bed about 12:30, then all hell broke loose. My neighbors son, who is mentally challenged, started shooting a real gun to celebrate the new year. He emptied 2 clips on the gun before stopping. We and all other neighbors called the police, the police came in force, 4 cars, 8 officers, guns drawn and an ambulance. they took the son away in ambulance. All of us had to check our cars and houses to see if anything had been hit. Luckily not. But what a way to ring in the New Year. Hope everyone had a more peaceful ringing in the new year. My question is, if you know your son is unstable why would you have a loaded gun in your house? I would be afraid at all times. Now I am for all of us in the neighborhood.

Holy cow! That's frightening! Hopefully the authorities will do something to make them remove, or at least lock up, any guns that they have. I cannot imagine having guns with someone like that around and with access to them. Thank God you all are okay and no one was hurt or killed. So sorry you had to begin your New Year like that! And all of your neighbors. I'm sure everyone was frightened to death. Hope today will be quieter and more relaxing for you.

Anonymous 2009-01-01 12:16:15 -0600 Report

Thank you. So far it is alot more quite. We know he was committed to the psych hospital for more observation but we do not know about the gun. The mother has been holed up in her house since the incident. We have a dispatcher in the neighborhood who promised to find out more.

Tonight is my anniversary! I think my husband planned it that way as not to forget our anniversary..lol. We are having some close friends over to watch movies and play "Imagineif", a new board game we got for Christmas. Yep, we're party animals…lol. I wish everyone on here a safe, happy and healthy new year!

I'm staying home alone and enjoying the evening by myself, nice and quiet. I have been very busy with family and friends during Thanksgiving and Christmas, and as much as I love them, I am looking forward to being alone. Unless, of course, a white knight charged in on his horse and swept me away!!!

2008-12-31 17:17:48 -0600 Report

I think I'll be lucky to find one, let alone two, but if there is a friend, you'll be the first to know!! LOL

2009-01-01 10:53:31 -0600 Report

No knight came rushing in to save the night for me, so I spent the night alone. So, no friends no friends to send along to you!! Boo Hoo for both of us!!! LOL

I have pretty much given up. I've decided if it happens, it happens. It is said love finds you when you least expect it and not looking for it. So I might as well quit looking!!! Sounds depressing, but maybe if I stop looking, that saying just might come true. Always the optimist!! Besides, I have nowhere to keep the horse!!!

Stay Home. We watch it on TV. If I'm tired I can watch the New Year roll in in another part of the world. Usually don't stay up too late. Making Hoppin John for tomorrow.

We stay at home and watch T.V. switching between our four channels searching for the most entertaining show until the ball drops in the Big Apple. Don't let this get around, but usually Connie has to wake me up in time to watch the ball drop. I guess I'm just a party animal.
