family of diabetic

I just found out at I have diabetes. I'm 62 mine daughter who is tweety619 on here told me about this support group. So I know diabetes run in family mine mother passed away in 1968 in a diabetes coma. But things have change since my daughter first became diabetic and now.
I'm a type 2 and mine daughter and mother a type 1. I was told that is unheaded of is it?

I'm glad your daughter suggested you join our group. I'm sure you know quite a bit about diabetes since your mother and daughter have T1, but it's a good idea to learn as much as you can about type 2. Talk with your doctor and ask for a referral to a diabetes educator, and attend a diabetes class. ~Lynn @Glucerna

Yes it the disease is very genetic in nature, which means it runs in families. Since I have type 2 diabetes and my sons' maternal grandmother had type 2 when she was alive,

I fear for my sons that they will eventually develop type 2 as well. My son who lives in the same area as I do is developing a pot belly and like I had just before I developed diabetes. Sometimes family habits such as eating certain things exacerbate or hasten development of type 2.

Not at all. My mother had type 2 diabetes, so do I and all siblings, all 7 of them. We eat healthy,exercised and watched our weight becausIn my husbands family we have two type 1 diabetics

welcome to diabetic connect. yes diabetes runs in my family too. it is genetic for sure. you have come to a good place. i hope you get lots of good help here.
