hi my name is Denise and i live in Canada. my type 2 blood sugar reading is 18.8 when it should read between 4 and 10. i know why i am so high. i can't remember all that i was told to do to help myself get my blood sugar down again as quickly as possible. i do remember i am to take a walk and drink lots of water. do you know of anything else i can do? i am bipolar and i forget a lot of stuff. i am learning to write stuff down and that helps. thanks.

I'm glad you're starting to write down when you eat and take your medication to help you stay on track. If you have a smartphone, you might research some apps to help you manage diabetes more efficiently. ~Lynn @Glucerna

Limit your carb intake. Don't confuse this with calories.

Don't drink your calories. Instead of sugary juices or coffees or flavored or even sweetened sodas, drink water.

Make sure to research your foods. You may be surprised to learn (for example) that bananas have a very high sugar content. Or, that corn is a starch, which means that it has a higher carb content than other veggies.

I recommend using a counter app like MyFitnessPal or LoseIt! to help you as you monitor your foods :)

if i have to take on one more task i will collapse. i was just diagnosed with Neuropathy. i eat Paleo, low starch, lower carbs, no sugar, no processed foods, no grains, etc. etc. i don't stick to it sometimes as i am new to all this. i need to make good eating a habit the way i made bad eating a habit. i have to stop saying i am just having a treat and eat diabetic friendly snacks and foods. the Paleo diet is for autoimmune disease and many with diabetes heal and can control their diabetes just with diet and exercise. that is my goal. i have already reduced the amount of insulin i take so i am doing well. i just forget stuff i have learned sometimes because of being bipolar. i am on a new med for bipolar and hope to get better control soon. very soon i hope. i want to be well just like you and everybody else. thanks for your reply.

You are supposed to limit your carbs, they seem to be the guilty ones in raising our blood glucose. I'm from Canada too.

do you ever eat something and forget you are diabetic and then remember after the fact? that's what i do. i ate way too many carbs today. i haven't even learned how to count them. i do well most of the time but every so often i think i am having a "treat" or a "day out" and eat whatever i want and then i wonder why my sugar is so high!! sheeesh. i am gonna get back in and see the Dietician. do you recommend any diabetic diet online? thanks for posting.

I'm brand new too. I haven't figured the whole thing or yet. I just know that it is minus 32 below worth the wind chill. ..I want comfort food.

oh my gosh, where are you? that is down right frigid. i am in Ontario near Toronto and we are cold but not like that. hope you can stay warm. have a little bit of comfort food only if you can stop at that. when i was in the diabetic clinic i asked if i could eat chocolate bars, lol, and the nurse said a very small amount once in a while. she said don't think never having something think have what you want in moderation. that was good for me to hear because i don't stay completely away from the foods that i love just because they are not good for the D. i need to be stricter tho.
