Currently my a1c level went up to an 8. My doctor has suggested the gastric sleeve as an option. Has anyone chosen this route?

I had been on Metformin for 11 years and it has started to affect my liver and kidneys. The Doctors just keep adding medications for "protection". Finally I said no more meds and went to see two different endocrinologists who both recommended Metabolic ( Gastric Sleeve) surgery. They showed me studies and statistics that were amazing. I am 5'2" and weighed 190 lbs. I have yo yo dieted all my life and have bad habits but I try to eat healthy. The nutritionist and behavior counseling are a must but this tool ( Gastric Sleeve) is the best decision I have ever made. I am off all medications and feeling so much healthier. Yes I have to eat different, but I couldn't have done it without the surgery . I tried many times. If you can lose weight, exercise and eat healthy good for you, but if you struggle as I did for years ( I am 54) then Metabolic Surgery ( Gastric Sleeve) may be the best decision of your life. I had my surgery 9/21/15 and my sugars are in control with no meds. I am not hungry all the time, I eat healthy but very little. I exercise , I have energy and I am losing weight. Best decision of my life!
