Endo dr. adding 2 units of lantus in morning and taking 1 unit away before each meal. I had a couple of 40 readings. Has anyone had a change like this? Now I'm afraid of lows because of what a beautician told me what happened to one of her customers having a low. Seems like I'm going nuts trying to figure this all out. My fingers aren't happy either.

Hello, type 1 diabetic here since 2012 at 31. I use lantus in the evening 12 units and humalog. I've had a few lows on the lantus at night after injecting into my right leg. I did some research on the net and found that I was probably hitting a vein so I switched the shot to my stomach and have had no problems. I too lost my mind due to the lows hitting 30's and 40's. I am still petrified at night when I take the shot but as I gain trust in the new injection site I feel better. I just test like 5 and 10 minutes after to make sure I'm not dropping. So I would suggest your stomach. I'm not a doctor, but I've gone through the same thing and it can really wear you out. You can do it!

I take Lantus AM & PM because when I took it one time a day I had high BS in the AM. I take humalog at each meal based on what I am eating-usually 1-4 units. As I am eating a balanced weight loss diet, I am decreasing the humalog depending on my reading before meals. I do test alot a day. Will until I can get this under control with my new eating habits.

Don't be afraid of hypos, just be prepared for them. Carry something small to eat in case you need it, I carry starbursts around, not as good as M & M's, but they dont melt in my pocket. Ive been as low as 16 and everything has always worked out.

I know this is so off topic, but do you only take lantus ? And why ? I met a few people who do and I never understood why they don't take humalog also.

Agreed…just from experience, Lantus alone is not very effective, but that is just my opinion. I take SS Novolog, Lantus, and Metformin.
