Is this really a time for celebration or worry; I know what I think, what about you?

I like to think that what we have to look forward to in the new year is simply a self fulfilling prophesy. If you think it will be filled with bad times and bad things it probably will. If you think it holds hope, joy, and happiness it will. Health? Prosperity? You name it, the sky is the limit.

And if I am wrong what have I lost? Hope?..,certainly not. Joy?..,never. Happiness?..,not with Christ in my life.

Meridian if you could bottle that attitude and sell it you would become a millionaire. I expect you will have a beautiful 2009 with that outlook. There is an old saying that I love "Attitude determines Altitude.

I totally agree with you Meridian. As long as I get out of bed in the morning, it is a good day. I have a wonderful family, my husband has a great job(yes his hours have been cut down but it still pays the bills), have a nice home, car to drive, have control of my blood sugar numbers for the most part. 2008 was not a horrible year but I know 2009 will be better. It is all about attitude. Positive Mental Attitude. I think President Obama will get us back on track and as far as the stimulus package is concerned, it does not benefit me that much but it does my daughter and I hope he will do something about the affordable health care for her. He is walking into a mess but I am confident he was the best choice. Happy New Year. It will be a better year. Just have to have faith.

I know we definitely need a good healthcare program and some need the stimulus package as well, lets' just hope he will deliver the Change he is committed, too. It all sounded good for a while, but too much of a good thing can be bad.. People want so hard to believe, and that is what got him elected;;;;now lets' see if he will follow through? Certainly hope so;He did one thing, that is for sure; He Made History and certainly stepped up to the base on that. It is very good to know that most people are not bias or prejudice anymore, and without a doubt that is one single revelation definitely neede in this world. This was sooooo overdue, what kind of world would it be where we can not live in peace with our brother, or should I say US, at least, lol. You know what I mean, Hope we keep moving forward with all this.

Since I started listening to my heart and realized it was the direction and path God wanted me to follow, every day has been good. It's easy to do. I turned my will over to God. So all I do now is sit back and watch God's Will in action. Life is good and every day a gift.

Aaaaamen, brother!! You are so right. I've seen that too many times in my own life and the lives of those around me. It's true in every area of life.

I am sure there are some new ideas t add to this discussion, on the direction the new year has taken.
Does it look good or bad?

2009-02-22 16:00:02 -0600 Report

Neither do I; only worse. I read your other post on my new discussion and you are so right, Ken.

Everyone has some serious issues to face in the year ahead. Some good, some bad. But most importantly all have the strength to drudge on and endure with a little faith. Good luvk to all. Claudia

Well, at least now, There is some hope of a new stimulus package in beginning of 2009, and a tax break as well. Claudia

Anonymous 2008-12-30 20:49:14 -0600 Report

And just where do you think the stimulus package is coming from??? Who will pay in the end but those of us who pay taxes

LindaRuth 2008-12-30 20:59:02 -0600 Report

I worked for years to prepare myself for the future and if everyone did this we'd be so much better off. Live like the squirels do. Its tough but can be done without depending on Uncle Sam to take care of you. Uncle Sam is only as wealthy as we the taxpayers make him.

Anonymous 2008-12-31 14:10:38 -0600 Report

Kinda rude wasn't that anonymous # 1. We all pay taxes in some form. So it will come from all of us. To help all of us and to help our economy. We all need to pitch in. President-elect Obama asked that of all of us and I plan to do my part.

I think it's all in how you decide to see it. I am celebrating every day of the life the good Lord has decided to bless me with. I still have a dry roof over my head, a phenominal family that loves me, two cars that run, and just enough money to provide the things we NEED. If I looked at the fact that we are still renting a tiny little townhouse (too small for 4 people), that my daughters suffer from chronic migraines, my husband is making much less money this year, I have to work two jobs, the cars are having issues, and we still can't have the THINGS to make us comfortable in life, then, yea, I could make myself miserable. It's a difficult time for everyone and we just have to make sure we keep our attitudes in check. If we bring down those around us by losing hope, then we just have a bunch of people with hopeless attitudes. What good does that do us? God bless us all in the New Year!

What a wonderful post, and so very true. It isn't easy remaining hopeful when all around you seems to be crumbling, but so much of our life is based primarily on our thinking and attitude. Yours is great! I'm sure those around you enjoy your company more than those who seem to be unable to find anything good in their lives. We need to encourage each other!

Not to get too political but I do believe with President-elect Obama coming in as president we have a lot to look forward too. He is coming into a mess but with all his picks for cabinet members I think he has a plan to get us back on track. My husband works for a car manufacturer(not the big 3) and they are going through great changes too. But it is looking up and that is encouraging. He was on 4 day weeks, now he is back on 5. Which is wonderful. I can believe that this new year will be a lot better than the past 8. Sorry if that offends Bush supporters but I was and am an Obama supporter all the way. Happy New Year to All.

The financial crisis is something to really worry about, along with the war. However, there is always hope that things will get better. I feel that without hope, we have nothing.

I am in both camps on this. I am worried, as I have no income, and the prospects are looking grim.
On the other hand, I am excited about the new things that come my way. I don't have a crystal ball that tells me what is coming, so I try not to focus on the dark side of things and concentrate on how I am going to make myself better. How am I going to help other people, and how I am going to have some fun.
My husband and I and a small group of friends are of the belief that we should prepare for the worst and exptect better. So as we have been doing that this year and into next year, it will change our lives I am sure. Great comfort comes in being prepared and so I am looking forward to a comforted year.

I really feel for you. I was laid off 2 months ago from a large bank with a good income. Now it's unemployment, house and car payments and unemployment is only $207.00 per week in Alabama which is a joke. I've managed to make it so far, just pray and hope a lot. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. I hope 2009 is the best year for you so far. God bless you Mary.
