I just made this account reading what all of you have to say about diabetes. I'm so convinced that im the only one going through losing my hair and its devastating. I'm a teenage girl with really thin hair and its hard to deal with at any age but more so this one. Ive been diabetic for 12 years and i always had thick hair growing up until back in 2011 I wasnt managing my blood sugar properly and thats when I noticed my hair falling out. Its almost been 3 years since then and ive brought my a1c down whole points since april. Im trying so hard to get my hair back by managing my sugars but im not seeing results and its so discouraging. It sounds so petty but this effects me and the way i look at myself so much, in a very negative way. Does anyone have suggestions or any type of help?

When my daughter was diagnosed, jan. 2012, she was in dka. Shortly after leaving the hospital I noticed when I combed her hair it fell out for about 90 days after. Now her hair is back full and thick but I think it's because her sugars are mostly in good control. When she runs high it seems to start to thin again.

I am so glad I found this discussion. I have been noticing lately that I am combing out large clumps of hair and it is starting to scare me. I thought about calling my endocronologist but haven't yet. It's not too thin yet but I am worried that soon itll look terrible.

Same here, my hair always falls out so much when I comb it. When I was little it was so thick now it's just thin and brittle :( I was diagnosed 4 months ago with type 2. But my hair started to thin out about 5 years ago…could it be the diabetes ??

I've noticed my hair falling out more and more. I thought it was just me. Is it really connected to diabetes ? That's really interesting. My hair is getting super thin now too and it's awful.
