Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with Type 1 about a month ago and I'm 20 years old. I'm handling it pretty well, I think, but it would be really nice to get to know some other diabetics out there. The two things I hate so far are that, food feels like my enemy now and that having diabetes doesn't mean I'm not at risk for other illnesses and thought of potentially dealing with more than one serious illness sucks. Also, the Lantas really stings sometimes and that sucks too.

Im newly diagnosed t 1.5, i will know next week if the meds im taking are working so i dont know what the shots are like, yet anyway. I do understand about the food as your enemy though! Everytime i sit down to eat i feel like im damaging my body…even if im not eating any carbs! Hopefully this will change once my bs is under control. How about the odd stares you get from people when you go to eat something? I have a family member whose eyes scream " should you be eating that? " everytime i put ANYTHING in my mouth. I guess it will be change with time. Good luck to you

Hi I'm t1 since June 2013. It came as a shock to me n my family but now I got cope up with it. Now I eat all those veggies which I used to hate. If I miss having the required amount of veggie a day, it becomes worst day for me as I become weak n tired. Don't hate the food u eat. Start living it and enjoy it, u will find very good results. And obviously exercise well to reduce or insulin dose or to make or BG levels in control mainly fbg. Have a great time and Happy World Diabetes Day. Remember we are precious to us n our family

Welcome! :) I was diagnosed February of last year, and it was really hard for me for a long time. I was still super scared of needles until about three months in lol. I never liked having any extra meals because I hated doing the doses for it.
I was always worried that after getting diabetes I was doomed and I was probably going to end up with all these other diseases, but as long as you take as good of care of yourself as you possibly can, you'll be fine. Just remember, your needs come before everyone else's now.
Lantus does sting super bad! I hated doing it, too. Especially at first because I was up to 28 units, but by January of this year I was down to only 4 units an then I got my omnipod.
Are you thinking about getting a pump eventually? If you ever need anything feel free to shoot me a message! :)

Welcome. I am relatively new (6 months) to my t1. But have been married to one for 21 years. Please don't feel food is your enemy! Don't sabotage yourself. I have had to drastically change my diet. Loved white breads but now i cannot handle them. Have found great substitutes that are good. Check out the recipes on this site, beware some of them are not that good.

Good luck!
