Been toying with the idea of getting one… every one I find is kind of tacky, any suggestions?

I just talked to a paramedic friend and former classmate. I asked him his recommendation on Diabetes Tattoos. We went through EMT class together and we were never taught to look for them.

He said they never look for them because these days a lot of people have all kinds of tattoos and they never pay attention to them. We were all trained to look for the bracelet or necklace. He said they transported a woman with one. She passed out at work and no one knew she was diabetic. Since it was summer and she had on a tee shirt they did not have to move clothing to take a blood pressure. The tattoo was on her upper arm. They found out because the police officer went through her purse and found the medical alert bracelet in her wallet.

I think it would be easier and a safer bet that a bracelet or necklace will be right there for medics to see if you are in a position where they are called and you need medical treatment.

I was more so just thinking of getting a diabetes tattoo for me and continue with wearing a medic alert bracelet so it's all good! Getting an actual medic alert tattoo would scare me because, like you said, it may not get noticed. Really risky.

I've been thinking the same thing. All I've come up with maybe is the Caduceus symbol inside of my left wrist, only the intertwined snakes would have maybe syringes for fangs, with little drops of insulin falling out and incorporate some slick looking lettering that said type 1. Thats all Ive come up with so far though.

Silicone, that would look like any other tatto and would not be noticed. I have seen doctors with Cauduceus with needles, stethoscopes and other tools of their trade.

Odds are paramedics would not pay any attention to it because they are more focused on saving your life than reading or looking at your tattoos.

If you have a fb, there's this fb page called type 1 diabetes memes… On there, they several examples of medical alert tattoos. I'm sure you can get a good idea!
