Hi everyone! I have been on metformin 1000mg 2xaday for 5yrs now. My body's never really gotten used to it. Side effects are the worse! I tried an injection pen called Victoza 1.2mg once a day with half a pill and it was great!! My numbers came down to almost normal after having highs of 200 - 450 daily!! A week ago because medicaid dont pay for Victoza I started the Byetta pen. Results are not as great so far but we will see! :-) Thanks for reading!

I just don't understand why many Type 2's just don't go on insulin. I'm Type 1, but my dad is Type 2 and struggled for many years on other meds before going on a single shot per day of Lantus. The small needle is just no big deal…it fixed everything. Insulin is easy and it's the natural that your body is missing.

I was on Victoza and really liked it. My insurance cut me off after a few months saying it was not approved. I have no insurance now so am on generic pills free from the ShopRite. Victoza can cause a certain type of thyroid cancer. My sister had thyroid cancer so my dr. checked mine and found a tiny nodule. So no more Victoza for me. I was on Byetta too and like you found that it didn't work as well as the Victoza. It's expensive and going through the manufacturer will only save you $25. I know people who used Byetta and had great results, we all react differently. Hope you find what works for you.

Tried to post this earlier but will try again.

Can someone tell me about Victroza and Byetta? I looked it up but only found out that it is a non-insulin med for blood sugar. But basically that's it. How are these meds different from the Lantus that I take, which is an insulin med? Looking to learn something new.

Im only sure that victoza and byetta are not insulin and some people take one of these along with insulin. Im thinking they replace drugs like glipizide. I hope this helps you a little!

I did lose a little weight thanks! But i think the victoza is only replacing meds like glipizide which i used to take. Metformin is not good to my body so im not happy to still have to take it but at least i can take less which means less side effects!
